Superintendent TTamilton of the Gary Connecting: Railway company has most of the eleven miles of the route between East Gary and Goodrum completed. Grading and construction work has been completed within three miles of Goodrum. The Gary and Interurban. the Gary Connecting railway and the lines In IjaPorte and Porter countries are subsidiaries of the New York-Chicago Air line. , .

The Illinois Improvement and Ballast company, the principal contractor for the United States Hteel corporation in the western steel district, is building two more streets In Gary, upper Pierce street and upper Fillmore. Klniklted fly June 1. Fillmore is the last street in the first subdivision and , Pierce Is the first street of the new second subdivision. These streets .will be ready for occupancy on June 1. at which time several houses will be built after that date. ' ' These streets will be paved and sidewalked from Fifth to 'Eighth avenues.

Following the building of these streets the improvement company will proceed to improve several other streets in the second and sixth subdivisions, northwest Gary. By the late fall practically all of that woodland between the end of the first subdivision and Clark station, a distance of two miles. Rush Fifth Avenue. The improvement company Is busy extending Fifth avenue westward from Ambridge avenue to Clarke road. This will' be completed by the end of May. With the completion of this strip Fifth avenue will then be the longest thoroughfare in Gary. Extending from Clarke road to Aetna, the whole distance paved nearly seven miles, the street taps every big industry in Gary.
