The Calumet Bistricf The Calumet district is the greatest industrial district cn earth greatest in the rapidity of its development and greatest in the magnitude of its future. First , in importance come the mammoth industries which will bring a million people to make their homes in the district, within the next few years. ' Of almost equal importance are the electric railway lines, which will serve and distribute those people. The Calumet district must have a comprehensive electric railway system which will serve this growing population, reach the various industries; the several business centers; the suburban residential districts; the adjacent farms, gardens and orchards; the natural playgrounds of the people ; the, neighboring towns and cities of North- " em Indiana. ' The Gary & Interurban Railway Company is building up a street and interurban railway system, which, with its connections, will do . ill this and more. - The street railway service which the Gary & Interurban is giving in Gary is known to be superior to that of any city of its size in America. Do Hammond people know that they can get a car for Gary every half hour, starting from the corner of Sibley and Hohman streets? The first car leaves Hammond for Gary at 5 a. m. and a car leaves every half hour until the last car 11:30 at night. The first car for Hammond leaves the north end of Broadway.in Gary at 4:30 a. m. andv the last car at 11 p. m. By arrangement with affiliated lines, now building and almost completed, we soon will be able to give a fast limited service between Gary and Hammond, stopping at Tolleston only. This fast service will be made possible by the large interurban cars which will run between LaPorte and Hammond. A local service will be operated on the new line east, to East Gary and the new suburb of Garyton, to Chesterton and Valparaiso, opening up some exceptionally attractive districts for suburban homes.

By means of other connecting lines, now building, the people of the Calumet region will be able to reach the county seat conveniently and the town of Hobart. WILL BRING ORCHARDS AND GARDENS TO YOUR DOORS. One of the problems of the Calumet district has been its food supply. You now are dependent upon South Water street, Chicago, and your fruit, vegetables and green stuffs are no longer fresh when they reach you. Here is some good news. We are tapping the finest fruit and garden counties in Indiana Porter and LaPorte counties with connections into the famous fruit belt of Michigan. We are planning to bring to central markets in this district, milk, butter, eggs, and the various products of orchard and garden, while they are fresh, and at country prices. Dealers who wish to get in touch with growers along the line, should write to W. C. Phillips, superintendent, at our Gary office. PLAY GROUNDS FOR THE PEOPLE. Great as is the Calumet district, it still lacks natural parks playgrounds for the people. We are solving that problem also, as well as the problem of a proper food supply. On completion of the line now building east from Gary, in about sixty days, the entire Calumet district will have convenient access to a group of beautiful lakes which lie a few miles southeast of Gary. We shall make a specialty of our lake service during the summer months and will carry thousands of miH workers and their families ,and others of the Calumet district, into' that beautiful lake re- . gion for a day's or hatf day's outing. There is a whole string of these lakes, large and small Moss, Wahub. Deep, Canada, Long, Flint, Spectacle and others, with boating, bathing, fishing, amusement resorts, picnic grounds, hotels, restaurants, summer cottages, camping .grounds, picturesque ravines, woods and dells. Societies and clubs who are planning a summer day's outing, close to nature, should not forget that we shall be giving service to the lake region of Porter county not later than July 1. There is some ideal country for golf links, overlooking Long lake, which Gary or Hammond lovers of the game should secure by purchase or lease. A finer spot for country clubs could not be imagined.
