Zacharlas defeated Frank Schindler by a vote of 6 to 22, which is certainly decisive enough for the most radical. Mr. Zach arlas has held this office for the past two years in a very creditable manner, and although he had a slight opposition yesterday, the vote plainly shows the voters of the 32nd precinct appreciate a man who can express himself. In other words, they want a live one. The woman suffrage ballot lost out In Hegewisch at yesterday's primaries. This was a foregone conclusion, although not a credit to these voters and is simply an example of their lack of fair-mindedness and Intelligence. These men who voted against this Issue know that there are voters in this town who cannot read or write,, let alone vote Intelligently on any Issue. A. evidence a democratic ballot in the SSrd precinct had all four candidates for governor marked, when the ballot plainly stated vote for one. And, furthermore, these men know that the women of Hegewisch are' educated. They know that the enfranchisement of these women would mean efficiency ln a candidate ln order to secure a vote Instead of a drink or a threat. "And the reason , men oppose progress is not that they hate progress, but that they love Inertia." But Hegewisch does not express the sentiment of the majority. It never will. It is too slow. The fight has Just begun, and because the issue is just and because yen know It Is Just i It will succeed. "Every good thing has been condemned in its day and generation." Do not forget the East Chicago Baseball association prize mask ball. Thursday evening, April 11, 1$12, at Lewis Rink, East Chicago. GRIFFITH.
