Shea at their home in Indiana avenue, before returning to Chicago where Mr. Brophy is employed and where they will make tfceir home. Mrs llrophy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Shea and her marriage to Mr. Brophy was an event of Friday, March 1st. The young people are prominent in the younger social set and they will receive the best wishes and congratulations of many friends on their return to Hammond.

tertained a number of friends at her home In East Sibley street yesterday
afternoon and evening in celebration of
her birthday anniversary. . She receiv
ed many pretty gifts in remembrance of the day. Music was the feature of entertainment. The program was given by Mrs. William Lucht, , William
Lucht and Charles Kirk. A supper was served at five o'clock. The tables were
beautifully decorated with carnation
and sweet peas and the color scheme
was daintily carried out in pink and
white. Among the guests were Mes

The members of the art committee of
the Hammond Woman's Club will meet
at the home of Mrs. W. C. Harrison in

The young women of the Nu Tau
Beta Club were delightfully entertain
ed by Miss Edythe McConnell at her
home in Doty street last evening.
Eight members were present and Miss Hayden of Lowell who Is Miss Alma
Hess' house guest was an Invited guest
at the meeting. Miss McConnell was hostess at a "juvenile party" and the
guests came in dainty and attractive
costumes. The entertainment provided
was apropriate for a "children's gath
ering" and a very pleasant time waa spent playing games. A feature of the evening was a contest In which the
guests dressed dolls. Dainty refresh
ments were served In little baskets
during the evening and following the
games' luncheon was served at tables
in the dining room. Carnations were
uaed In the decoration of the table.
Miss Marie Itobbins was named as the next hostess and she will entertain at her home in Manila avenue on the

PARENTS' CLIB MEETINti. Forty members of the Parents' Club
of the Lincoln school met In, the kindergarten halt yesterday afternoon for
their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was one of the most enjoyable of the year.- Miss Norma Locklin gave
a very excellent., talk , on "Domestlu Science" atod a general discussion fol
lowed. Mrs. John Powell sang a group of songs which were very much appreciated. The remainder of the program
was given by the children of the grades and their sogs and recitations were
thoroughly enjoyed. The members re
mained after the program for a short
business session and plans for the April

at the home of Mrs. W. O. Leaverton In Madison street yesterday afternoon for
an important business session. In the
absence of the president, Mrs. Wright who is ill at her home In Plummer ave
nue, the vice president, Mrs. II, E
Granger presided. The members dis
cussed the contest to be given In the
near future but no definite date was
decided upon. The question of having a Police Matron in Hammond was also
discussed and a committee was ap
pointed who will meet with Miss Vir
ginia Brooks and members of the Ham
mond Woman's Club In the near future

Mrs. J. M. Turner was at home to the
members of the philanthropic commit
tee, of the Hammond Woman's Club
yesterday afternoon at her home, 803 Truman avenue. Several Important
business matters were disposed of. P.eports were made of the charity work done during the winter and tt was decided to spend one afternoon next week sewing for the hospital benefit.

At. the meeting last night a large delegation from Merrlllvllle was present. Evangelist McDonald held a meeting there several years ago and nearly every one In the town became a Christian. The largest congregation of the
whole series of meetings was present last night. The solos by Mr. Moon and Prof. Rice were highly pleasing.
The meeting tonight will be an open
note for Sunday's work. "All are in

Gary Basketball. Last night the Gary high school boys defeated the St. Joe high school team at basketball by a score 36 to 13 at the Gary Y. M. C. A. St. Joe was out classed from the first and. could not make any headway at all i throughout the game. The Warsaw girls' team forfeited their game to the Gary girls by non-apearance. The Gary Fresh men were supposed to play the Russel Square five but the Chicago team failed to put In an appearance.
