matches that cannot be equaled anywhere. The men have all been in con-j stant training and when the gong brings them into the ring on the eve of the contest the fans will have an op-i portunity of seeing something worth their while. To make the contests a
success the. fans are invited to attend if;
these shows as the management has done all in their power to put on a good card. A slim crowd attended the first contest and it was praised so highly by those that witnessed the contests a record crowd is expected. The matches will bring together some of the best! boysin the country and they are well known and carry a list of resords. ' The, first event wiil be a wrestling ' bout between Young Hackenschmidt, ' who is known as the Russian IJon, and Joe Mysliwy of Fast Chicago. Myjliwy , is the boy that made short work of : Fred Callahan of Chicago last week! and with a little more experience ha will surely make a great reputation. , Hackenschmidt lias been seen on the. mat at East Chicago in the past and1 he needs no mention, as he is one of j the best at his weight in the grappling1 game. In the second event Fred Polly vs. Battling Wells will be seen in a sixround contest at 115 pounds. . The youngsters have a past reputation, hav- i

Coach Pat Page of tho University of Chicago track team resorted to new
tactics yesterday in his efforts to prepare the Midway experts for Saturday's battle with Illinois at Partlett gymnasium. The Maroons were shifted and sent through strange events in the hope of discovering "dark horses-' among the squad, and Page declared that several of the stars would appear out of their ordinary positions against the IUini as a result. The shifting of Captain Davenport to the mile run was the only definite change in the Midway plans. "Davy" expects to run the mile in addition to the dash and one of the middle distance events. It is all but certain that he will be seen in the quarter mile.

He J has been doing around 11 feet 8 inches in practice, but his mark yesterday surpassed all his preliminary work, and j Page will spring him as a surprise in ! the coining meet. 1 Coyle and Murphy are expected to flirt with the twelve-foot mark In the t vault, and Dickerson in all probability will be in the same -!ass. The entries 'announced by Page aie practically the isame as those of the first Chicago-Illinois meeting last month.
HATOEWS SHADES DENNIS MAGIRL Springfield. Mo., March 7. Dennis Magirl of Omaha lost to Pierce Matthews of St- Ixuis here last night after ten rounds of fast fighting. "Cyclone" Tom Henry was knocked out in twelve
