Phone 132-M many out of town relatives of slain and injured employes to get informa tion regarding accidents. It has . actually happened that a man has been killed in the Gary steel mills and at' the time his people could not be locat- ! ed. Months after his widow or rela-' ttves living elsewhere would learn of his fate and coming to Gary " they could get very little information. If the body was buried in an unmarked grave even the last resting could not be learned. I Police Are Handicapped. According to the police thief the po lice department is frequently asked to . supply information and this it cannot? do. Under the present rules there Is no way for the police or newspapers to I learn the names of men injured in any of the United States Steel corporation mills in Gary. If a man is killed or dies at the Emergency hospital hit death becomes known when the body is delivered to a down town morgue but in many cases it has been a hard job to get the name of dead men for two or three days. Chief Martin wants the Gary ordi nance based upon the one prevailing in the city of Chicago. The chief has learned that at the South Chicag steel works acident reports must be made to the police department. j - I COMMERCIAL CLUB IN ! SCHRAGE, Sole than are filed it will take four years to catch up with the docket assuming that the business does not come in faster than it Is now. At Crown Point the situation is better. There the court is nearly caught up with the docket and one lawyer said that the court is so nearly caught up with its work that he has found it exceedinly difficult, after filing a. e"as to get time to prepare for trial before it is called. It is expected, however, that after the interurban line starts to running from Gary to Crown Point that many of the Gary lawyers will do their bualnes there instead of at Hammond. This wiil result in giving the circuit and superior courts at Crown Point a great deal more business than they are now getting. It will also serve to relieve the Hammond courts of the pressure of business that they are now t etting. So it is apparent that the dockets in all of the courts in Lake County ought t be 'in pretty good shape in two or three years more vinless there is an unprecedented amount of business developed in the meantime. AV. F. Hodges, special prosecutor, today confirmed the exclusive story in The Timks last night to the effect that the Gary bribery trials would be resumed this month at Valparaiso. Alderman Bowser is the next to he tried. From Information that reached The Times yesterday from South Bend it was stated that Judge Van Fleet and Special Prosecutor Parker had Marc1! 2 in mind. It was also stated that Mr. Hodges had not been notified of their date making and that he' would be in the eci-rse of a few days. Today Mr. Hodges received a communication from his associate Mr. Parker in which it was stated that th? trials will be held this month. Mr. Parker says that some want the trialT to start next Monday but that the most

likely date is March 28 although March 23 still is being considered. TWIN CITY DOGS Police Will Take no Chances on Mad Dog Scares Nowadays. Have you a dog that you are fond of? If you have and if you live in Kast Chicago, Indiana Harbor or Calumet, you would best see that the animal Is chained when out of doors. For thpolice have issued an edict that any dogs found running at large will bo shot on sight. "Influence" will save none of the canines, for all dogs look alike to the police and the aristocratic Boston terrier wil share the same fate as does his cur neighbor on failure to comply with the new order. The cause of all this is the fact that a number of persons have been bitten by dogs in surrounding towns and there is prevalent an impression that some of the brutes were mad. The result has been a mad-dcg scare in East Chicago and Indiana Harbor and the police believing that an ounce of prevention is worth all of a ton of cure, when the cure has to be applied to a I -ase of hydrophobia, are taking drastic j measures to relieve the danger of i inoculation. ' Whether the dogs are chained or tied, it will go hard with a great many poor canines whose careless owners have not provided their faithful animals with dog houses and who refuse to allow ; them to spend the nights inside their own homes.
