means of the dictograph. Of course, hla attorneys attacked the validity of such evidence. But DIegel will have to go to the penitentiary, and several members of the legislature who were indicted with him will be brought to trial at once. There was no reason why the Su
preme Court should have been called upon to render a decision in the matter. The case against DIegel was clear and the evidence was conclusive. But attorneys who undertake to defend criminals may always be expected to hunt for every possible means of escape for their clients,
whatever the cost to the public may be. Evidence secured by means of
the telephone and telegraph has in the past been attacked, and it may be assumed that the validity of evidence which shall in the future be secured
