Judge William Weste-rgren, who pre
sides over the common peoples supreme court In Miller, finds that he still Is an active candidate for, the republi
can nomination for sheriff.
All along it was thought that a nice
Joke would be sprung upon the Miller
urist by telling him later on that a
holder of a judicial oftlce cannot seek any other elective office until at least one year after his term expired. So
they smiled.
However, the Judge's friends will earn here that for the first time that
he has cleverly evaded the statute.
When re-elected to (he wolsack for
the second time Judge Westergren did not qualify for the office. His opponent failed to notice this in the ten day's time so under the statute Judge Wester
gren holds office until his successor Is duly elected and qualified. There will be no election for a couple Of years yet so if the court falls down in his shrievalty ambitions he will still have
the Job of dispensing justice in the
north end of Hobart township.
On the other hand, those In the camp of Colonel Francis claim that he will notly only be elected chairman but will have a few votes to spare. Major MacFadden claims the Griffith delegates. Today many of the republican workers are busy on the firing line", and all kinds of promises and deals are being made. Many of the leaders are standing by and are not Interfering, leaving the chairmanship race an open proposl. tion.

ICE IN KANKAKEE THICKEST 111 YEARS
Were it not for the fact that there are fewer dams in the Kankakee river today than there . were twenty-five years ago the city of Wilmington would be facing another disastrous flood. The ice in the river now is thicker than it has been for thirty years according to the old residents and
a sudden thaw or heavy rain would be
liable to cause a gorge and endanger the island and the low lands.
Wilmington hs had two disastrous
floods In Its history, the first occurlng in 1S67 and the second about '83. Tha second of these took out the old wood
en bridge across the river which was
replaced by the present iron structure which was the first bridge In the county built with county aid.
The cause of these gorges was the
two dams below Wilmington, one at Kelly's and the other two, miles above
which blocked the flow of Ice so that
the river overuowed its banks and
great damage was done. These dams
have long since been destroyed so that
now there is nothing to obstruct the ice ow unless a gorge should be formed
in the bend of the river below the city
and this is not probable.
It is seldom that the river freezes
across because of the swift current but
the recent severe cold spell has formeJ
Ice fourteen inches thick In the thread of the stream and nearly two feet thick In the still waters. Joliet News.
Woman Finally Recover From Nervous Breakdown , Impoverished nerves destroy many people before their time. Often before a sufferer realizes what the trouble is, 'he is on the yerge of a complete nervous 'breakdown. It is ef the utmost importance to keep
your nervous system in good condition, as the nerves are the source f all bodily power. Mrs. Anna Kounz, 2ii Mechanic St., Pueblo, Col., says: "For many years I suffered from nervous prostration; I was un,able to do any house work and doctors failed to help me. Remedies I tried from druggists did not do me a particle of good. A neighbor told my husband about Dr. Miles' Nervine and he procured a bottle. After the first few doses I showed a marked
improvement and after taking two bottles I was entirely cured. I have been perfectly well for years and cannot praise Dr. Miles' Nervine too highly." If you are troubled with loss of appetite, poor digestion, weakness, inability to sleep; if you are in a general run down condition and unable to bear your part of the daily grind of life, you need something to strengthen your nerves. You may not realize what is the matter with yotr, but that is no reason why you should delay treatment. Dr. Miles' Nervine has proven its value fn nervous disorders fr thirty years, and merits a trial, no matter how many other remedies have failed to help you. Sold by all druggists. If first bottle falls te benefit your money Is returned. MILES MEDICAL. CO., Elkhart, I net.
