Two plain drunks made things merry at the Pennsylvania station yesterday, starting in to paint that part of the town a lurid red in true western style. STOPPED BY - KMILl
Two runaways resulted in Hammond within a few minutes apart yesterday afternoon and luckily no one was Injured in the accidents. About 4:45 o'clock a team of horses, attached to a buggy belonging to Liesenfelt Bros., ran away from in front of Kindel's saloon, on Sheffield avenue. Tearing down Sheffield avenue they collided with an express wagon belonging to J. S. Ward.. This scared the horse attached to the express wagon, which ran to Hohman street, where the frightened animal was stopped without doing any harm. The firsts runaway was stopped by Manager Klngwill of the Hammond theatre and he found some difficulty in bringing the team to a standstill. Neither rig was damaged to any extent.
On Recovery RoadJohn Donaldson"; who is quarantined at 287 Sibley street owing to smallpox, with which he 1 down, is reported to have passed the crisis and is now on the road to recovery. He will, however, be confined to the house for an indefinite tina longer.
Another Match. In a second match game between the Uon Store grocery and clothing depart
ments . last night at Cox's alleys, the grocery department captured the honors by a small margin of 36 pins in a three-game series. The spectators helped the bowlers along and by the start of the second game Captain Long of the clothing department untied his little goat and pins flew right and left. Tony Litzan's quintet did the work after this and when it came to add the final score the grocery department crawled out ahead. This makes a series apiece and an

Eagles Initiate Forty. The East Chicago Eagles Initiated forty candidates last night in their hall but it is reported that Geo. A limited amount of stock in the million-dollar syndicate which has been organized by Philadelphia capitalists for the purpose of taking over the 375 acres of ground which was purchased by it from the East Chicago Co., is besold .to local investors in the Calumet region. No one is solicited to take the stock but the friends of those who are on the inside are being taken into the deal. At least a dozen Hammond people have been let in, but their stock subscriptions are being cut down. George Hannauer is handling the placing of what stock goes to Hammond; " E. T. Davis, who has made a million dollars In Lake county realty. Is handling the Chicago end and Walter J. Riley of East Chicago is handling the East Chicago end. It Is said that the company, which is organized for $1,000,000, will place but $100,000 worth of stock, will reserve $600,000 of treasury stock and will pay $375 100 for the acreage which it has bought. A meeting of the proposed stockholders will be held in the court house tonight, according to one of the proposed stockholders.
Allowed Bills.
The Hammond board of education met last night, but did nothing but go through the regular routine of allowing bills and claims. Nothing regarding the new school house, which is now held up by litigation, was considered.
