MARRIED IN CHICAGO. The ma rr la go of Miss Anna Johns and Everett Verrlll was solemnized in Chicago Thursday afternoon at half after two o'clock. The Rev. Conley officiated, using the ring ceremony of tha church. The bride was attired In a tailored suit ef blue serge and she wore a hat to correspond. After the first of February Mr. and Mrs. Verrlll will be at home to their friends at No. 1 Beltvue Place. Mrs.. Verrlll Is a daughter iof Mrs. Frances Wagner of Russell street, and has made her home in Hammond for many years. She has a large circle of friends among the young peo

ENTERTAINS WITH CARDS. At her home, 95 Russell street, Mrs Joseph Emmerling very pleasantly en tertained the members of Circle No. i yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of the club membership and Mra. Emmerling had several invited guests. It was the afternoon for the regular bi-monthly meeting. The next meeting will take place Thursday aft ernoon, February 1st at the home of Mrs. George Emmerling. 99 Russell street. The usual social program will be followed. Mrs. Emmerling entertalned with cards and pedro was played at several tables. Mrs. Jacob Weis won the first honors and Mrs. J. Fox the second. The consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. John Lavene. Mrs. Christine Meyers was awarded the guests prize. A two course luncheon was served after the card games. A SOCIAL ENTERTAINMENT. The members of Oak Leaf Embroid ery Club were delightfully entertained by Mrs. F. A. Scowden of Ada street at this week's meeting:. The meeting- took place yesterday afternoon between twothirty and five o'clock. Several of the members were present and the only truest was Mrs. Scowden of Meadvllle, Pennsylvania who Is In Hammond on a visit. Ex-Senator W illiam E. Mason. A small but appreciative audience listened to the Hon. William K. Mason, former senator of Illinois who spoke ut the Hammond theater under the auspices of the Hammond Settlement House. To many social events detracted from the attendance. Mr. Mason spoke for an hour, half of the time having been devoted to a lecture on American Citizenship, and the balance of the time to sterepptlcon view, taken principally In the moun tains of Colorado and Arizona. The speaker was introduced by Miss Virginia Brooks, the president of the Settlement House In his address Mr. Mason said that he had heard of Miss Brooks before she approached him tor his services, and that he heard of Miss Brooks before she approached him for his services, and that when ahe did ask him to speak, that he considered it hlj duty to respond. The annual business meeting: and luncheon of the Christian churdh was held at the church last evening. The encouraging reports from every quarter were the occasion for cheers. There was not one report but which showed splndld advances on anything that had ever been attained In any previous year. , The pastor's report showed that there had been 2SS added to the congregation during the year. ,The largest number In any previous year was in 1910 In which there were 244. There has been a total of 1,195 added to this congregation during. Mr. Sharp's ministry. The total money raised and expended by the church in its various departments was $9,798.75. Each department was required to submit a written report. Nearly six thousand dollars was paid on the building Indebtedness this year. The amount of charity and relief work done among the poor by the Christian church . this year was wide spread and many times what had been done before. The ladies' societies each earned nearly a thousand dollars during the year or a total of nearly two thousand for both. Mrs. George Sllger is president of the Deborah society and Mrs. Will Lasch Is president of the Martha society.
