Eighteen rooms not taken at Weanes-'Buffere1
day night's drawing were given out to those at the top of the waiting list at the Gary Young Men's Christian association building last night. The fact that the waiters" would get rooms at once came as a 'pleasant surprise to many who thought they would have to wait for some time. However, many of the applicants on the first list have either left the city or changed their minds so this Is how there happened to be a few le'. Luxury Overwhelms Ansley. Last night many of those who drew rooms on Wednesday night occupied their new quarters for the first time. Judge Homer Ansley of the Reynolds building had the honor ef being th first one to sleep in the new home. He arrived at the association building a little after eight o'clock, with his "nightie" under bis arm. Upon his arrival at his room ln the fifth floor the judge decided that his quarters were too luxurious and upon his request half of the furniture was taken out so that he could have a "pleblan sleep." Tb-.Ut It Bridal Suite. Looks like a bridal suite In this place, said the Judge aa he surveyed the handsomely appointed room Which only costs him 12.25 a week.' "Look at that mahogany dresser there, and that fancy writing desk and those swell chairs, and that beautiful bed. - And this carpet is so thick and soft that you think you are walking on crushed violets." When the Judge's attention was call ed to the fact that his room like all of the rest of them had a telephone In it as well as one of those new fangled "built in" wardrobes, hot and cold water and a shower bath in the room adjoining his admiration knew no bounds. He at once insisted upon calling up his friends at Indiana Harbor where he said that the best room in town was like the quartern of a barbarian when compared with the place he was now domiciled. Everything For Comfort. It Is declared that the living accomodations In the quarter of a million dollar association building are superior and more better furnished than any of those in any hotel ln the state. While there is no ostentatlousness the furniture is the best that can be had and everyhing that money could buy in the way of comfort has been provided for. On top of this Is the reasonable rental rates are which are no higher than those charged for a room In a Gary home. Rental Surprisingly Low. For Instance, the highest price slngls rooms are four dollars a week and thl3 sum is only charged for two of them. Most of the others on the third and fourth floors are rated at $3.00 to $3.50. Double rooms rent from $4.50 to $6.00. Rooms on the fifth floor can be had at $2.00, $2.25 and $2.50. These figures are the prices where rent is paid at least one week In advance. When there Is no advance payment each room rents at twenty-five cents higher. Telephones, wardrobes, electric lights, hot and cold water and other conveniences are in every room, while toilet rooms, bath rooms ana shower baths are located at frequent intervals on ths three dormitory floors. In the basement is located the gymnasium, bowling alley, swimming tank, barber shop and other departments. The first floor contains the main parlor or loby, the dining room, executive oiSces, visitors gallery (gymnasium) boy's department, club rooms. On the second floor Is located the library, club and smoking rooms, billiard room, lecture halls and the various class rooms. The association building has one block of frontage from Adams to Jefferson street in Fifth avenue. Income from dues, rentals, tuition, is not expected to support it as more than forty people are employed ln the building. It is expected that the various fndusries will contribute towards its support Judge Gary gave the cash to erec: the building $200,000 and a site valued al $50,009 while various industries in Gary contributed $40,000 for the furnifjra. People of Gary gave $7,000 for preliminary expenses.
