Several Whiting people are having

trouble with the hot water front in their ranges, as the result of the cold weather. The water front freezes up and bursts. Some people have been quite fortunate when having this trouble, but this was not so regarding Mr. and Mis. Oeorge Roe of Davidson place.

Mrs. Roe arose to prepare breakfast, and when she had just started the fire in the range she heard a cracking noise.

eigiht of fhe most loyal fans made their appearance and it was decided to adjourn the meeting until such time as would be convenient for a, larger attendance. The present weather is not conducive tobaseball enthusiasm and the next meeting will be called later in the season. .Mrs. Lj'dia Marks of Chicago, who recently erected a new home at Cedar T.ake, lias purchased a $600 lumber and wood saving outfit, it being her intention to clear off many acres of her woodland at the lake for timber and

cordwood. .The timber owned by Mrs.' Marks contains some of the largest and most beautiful trees around the lake and there are many who deplore the felling cf the grand old trees on the land. Their absence will do much to mar the lake as one of Lake county's choicest beauty spots. ....... ' : The real estate market has been anything but active during the last week, probable purchasers being . reticent about 'buying land under six Inches of snow. With the big stories concern-, ing the location of large factories and Industries in the north part of . the county comes a ray of hope for Crown Point, for It Is only a .matter of a fewyears when the north part of the coun- ' ty will be I so crowded with ftxtories,

etc., that the homeseekers will be compelled to seek suitable homes outside

that district, and consequently Crown

"Point will come in for more than Its

share owing to its favorable location

and reputation for beauty as a home

From reading the straw vote we are forced to believe that Creston is the only LaFollette stronghold In the

county. As none of the voters had formed their estimate of LaFollette by meeting him and hearing him speak it would seem that the people here study their man and his platform before committing themselves. There is considerable talk of petitioning the commissioners to construct a bridge across the marsh between Creston and. Cedar Lake. The road will never be passible the ontire year unless a bridge Is built. The planks, with which it is covered now, lie at water level part of the year, become rotten and unless the traveler watches carefully his horse will step
