(Special to Thb Times.) Chicago, Jan. 9. Up to Kast Chicago, Jan. 9. Up to noon yesterday no telegraph mesages could b recived at the East Chicago tele graph office, owfng to trouble with the equipment and wires. The Western Union, B. & O. Chicago Terminal and commission, all of them being crossed, Part of the trouble was finally Iocated in the local office, but by noon everything excepting the Terminal wires was doing, business again. The result of the trouble was that a number of East Chicago parties to whom messages by wire had been sent, werrf delayed until noon. Railroad messages were sent by long distance telephone. The Postal telegraph company which has an office in Indiana Harbor was more fortunate than the Western Union.. Everything was working all j right, there. Mr. McCrum, the operator 1 reported however that all had not been so smooth in the imediate past. There had been trouble between Hessvllle and Gary w ith the wires and there was general demoralization around Michigan City, JEJenton Harbor and South Haven. However all haB been adjusted ' and things are running smoothly again ROYAL LEAGUE HAS MEETING Indiana Harbor, Jan. D. The Royal League lield their banquet last night to celebraite the success "of tbe "new membership contest" inaugurated recentl yarn! carried out during the month of December. Xt had been the original intention that'th 4eam which got the largest number of members would b fed on turkey, while the losers must be satisfied with pork hops. As it turned out, howevor, no one had to cat pork chops. So successful was the contest that the lodge decided to cut out the poor man's diet and feast! both winners and losers on turkey. This , was dona and never was turkey more tender or satisfying to .the most critical inner" man than that which was served at last night's banquet.- "".'.'''.'.' There Were twelve members on each of the opposing teams and the net result of their achievement in the way of new members was sixty-one. This was a larger number of members than was gathered in by any other one lodge during the month of December. Last night was celebrated as "Fow ler night," C. E. Fowler of Indiana Harbor being the tarfe archon of the order. He presided as toastmaeter. State Scribe Darling, another state officer, woa also present. Toasts were responded to. by the following:. If any one snhouild hint that Ham mond does not know or .appreciate good music take the detractor gently by the hand and lead him to the new Orpheum where the six Kirksrnith sisters are now playing. If the skeptic is not con vinced of his error he is beyond redemption. Nothing finer has ever been heard hero than the musical specialty of this half dozen comely young women, s The decision of the AUardt brothers to change the starting time of the matinees from 2:30 to 3 o'clock had a noticeable effect yesterday. Th aft ernoon show started on time and what is more, barring a few minor hitches, went off more smoothly than any of BRYAN COULD NOT - BEAT JIM GUFFEY Summary of Washington Democratic Meeting. the initial performances ..thus far. The show starts with a splendid ex
hibition of physical development. The Carson brothers, who are styled "Sweden's representative athletes." have one of the neatest, clean cut athletic per formances on may expect to see anywhere - "Rosooe Rhetnbold, a Yiddish monologist, was second to appear. He has a good dialect and a funny line of patter. Wanzer & Palmer In a comedy sketch "Wanted a Job," were next in order. The plot concerns the, efforts of a gentleman of color to garner a position as office boy. The theme and its interpretation la productive of much levity. Pathe'n Weekly, depicting some nfew events of International Interest, was displayed between the comedy sketch and the act of the six Kirksmlth sisters. When all is said and done it is the six Kirksnvith sisters, who close the show, who are the real big hit of the bill and will undoubtedly be tiie magnate that serves to attract great throngs to the new Slate street playhouse. When an audience will remain seated at the close of the show and demand more It is a pretty good criterion that the act Is worth yhile. That is what was done yesterday afternoon and also at both shown at night. MOTIONS AND ORDERS. Court Room Xo. 2. 4966. John MeNaughton vs. Albert De Erskine, et al.
