STATE COMMITTEE MEETS WORM
TIMES BIHF..U, AT STATE CAPITAL.-' 1 Indianapolis. Ind., Dec. 26. Stat Chairman Lee's call, issn-ed yesterday, for a meeting of the Republican state committee in this city on "Wednesday of next' week, rathor took the politicians here by surprise because. Lee had said only a day or two before that there was no hurry about calling the committee together, and that probably no meeting: would be held until after the holidays. While Lee Is not saying anything of the kind, it is tho belief that he feels pretty certain ..of his standing- with the present- committee, and that he feels that he can depend
on it to take such action as he wishes It to take in the direction of effecting a reorganization. He will probably ask' the committee to set the reorganization date In either the last week in January 6r the first week in February. This has been his idea of tVre proper tim for the reorganization to take' place. It will be up to the state committee at nxt week's meeting to set the dato for he holding: of primaries or conventions in all of the precincts of the state for the purpose of electing delegates to th district conventions which will elect the new members of the state commitee. The state committee win also set the date on which the district conventions shall be held. It will the" fix the date on which the new members of the state committee will come to
gether and elect a state chairman. If the latter meeting is not held until the first week in February it will give Lea another month and a half to srve as state chairman, even if he is defeated for reelection at that time, as It now seemes certain that he will be. Lee still expresses the belief that he will .' be reelected, but a close study of th? political sky shows that the stars are wrong for him, and that they portend an impending disaster to his ambitions in th"t direction. ' Several of the members of th present rtate committee do not agree with X-ee in his statement that President . Taft cannot carry Indiana If rencmU nated for President. Whether these men will stand by him in his plans for
the reorganization program, since he made this statement, remains to be seen but evidently Lee believe they will. ... A traveling man of this city, who has been covering Ohio, Illinois and Iowa during the. last .three or four weeks, says that In all of these states he has heard a good many republicans talking about Charles j W. Fairbanks as the man to nominate ror President. He says-he . has heard a number of them say that they believed Fairbanks would

If this is true, he is not likely,' it is believed, to take any part In the Lafollette movement. For several weeks the Indiana Manufacturers and Shippers Association was in correspondence with the manager of the Lafollette campaign bureau at Washington In an effort to get Lafollette to come here on December 27 to make a speech at the annual meeting of the association, but it was found that he could not come on that date. There is a persistent rbmor, whtch !. denied Jy Lee, that Lee may resign as state chairman before the date for the reorganization arrives, In order that he may give his time all to the promotion of the plan to have an unlnstructed delegation from Indiana to the national convention. It is pointed out that there is no chance of his re-election as state chairman since he came out as an antiTaft man. and that he Is now recognized as the real head of the anti-Taft movement In this state. This being the fact, it is said, there is a chance that he may retire from his inconsistent position
Iiee, however, denies vigorously that he has any such Intention, and he says that
he will remain in the race for state chairman, and that he believes he will
be re-elected.

But Jf the rtepuutlcans are having
their troubles the Democrats are having worse troubles of their own. and It
looks n,ow like it will be entirely im

Fred A. Sims, former secretary of state and now a member of the state tax board. "The state chairman," said Sims, 'ought to have in hand at the earliest possible moment a summary and explanation of the new voters registration law. This ought to be put in pamphlet form withwout delay for distribution among the workers The state chair-
roiey and the Governor at one fell swoop. This is the only explanation that is heard tf Taggaro's action.
