The meeting was held on Wednesday instead of Thurs day of this week for the convenience of several of the members. The plans were completed for the annual bazaar and supper to be given Wednesday, Di cember I3th. The ladies have prepared many fancy and useful articles of needle work for the bazaar. chicken supper will be served between the hours of five and eight o'clock. The annual bazaar and supper given by the ladles of the First Presbyterian church, in the Masonic temple, in Muenich court yesterday afternoon and evening attracted a great many Hammond people. Always interesting and novel, this year the bazaar was even more attractive than in former years.

ELKS MOVER COUNTY ATTEND A large crowd of Elks from all parts of Lake county attended the smoker at the Elks club rooms last night and the first of the many social functions to be held this winter was a success from every standpoint. The committee received many words of praise for their hard work and efforts to make the smoker a success. Ijist night was the regular lodge evening, but no business, meeting was held. The meeting consisted of short talks, music, recitations and a social hour, including refreshments which was spread on a long table In the lodge room. j The music was rendered by the wellknown Hammond Four and many pleas ing songs were given. Roy Jerome, who is employed at the Gem theatre as singer, also gave a number pleasing selections. A number oX short talks were given by members of the order, which concluded the program. A number of Elks attended from Crown Point, Gary and Whiting. The next social party arranged by thfe com mittee will be held on the evening o Jan. 18, in the form of a card party and dance at the club rooms. HOLIDAY TODAY. Today Is a holiday of obligation in the Catholic church, tho Feast of the Immaculate Conception being observed. Where possible the regular Sunday program was carried through, but In congregations where people have to follow their daily work services were held early enough for all to attend without Interference with their .work. Owing to the holiday falling, on a Friday, th fast and meat abstinence regulation for Lent and Fridays, respectively, were set aside. The booths were built in the large hall. There were booths wher.j fancy articles of nedle work, appropriate for Chrismas gifts were sold; a utility booth, a Japanese booth, a candy tooth, an apron booth, a handkerchief booth, a booth where, hand-painted china was displayed and still another where articles of home bakery and cookery were sold. The booths were prettily trimmed with colored crepe paper and Christmas bells carrying out the holiday colors of red and green. Miss Cecil McCutcheon. ,in typical Japanese costume, presided at the Japanese booth. Cards and paintings were displayed at her booth. - The, Japanese lanterns and umbrellas made a pretty decoration. A large Christmas tree with trimmings of tinsel and lights also suggested the holidays. Sev eral long tables were occupied during the serving hours from 5 to 8 'Oclock. Red carnations and ferns decorated the tables. . The menu chosen for the supper was a most excellent 'one. The reports from the committees have not been received, but It Is expected that a large sum was realized which will be used for the benefit of the church. Mrs. Frances Kingsley was chairman of the bataar and she was asslsfed by many members of the society and churcli. In every particular the affair was a great success. ' ' ' ' A SOCIAL SESSIOV. The members of St. Paul's Luthern League and the Junior League of the church held a joint meeting last evening in the school hall at the corner of Sibley street and Oakley avenue. It was a social meeting, and the entire evening was given to games and music. Dainty refreshments were served at the close of the program.- There were many young- people in attendance at the meeting.
