GOTCH FLOPS GERMAN CHAMP
Minneapolis. Dec. 1. Frank Gotch of Humboldt, Iowa. world's champion wrestler, last niirht . defeated Pari
I Hammerschmidt of Germany, In a finish
nen yesterday In the eighteenth an
nual battle by the score of 21 to 9. The red and blue had the better of the attack and Cornell was always powerless to stop the local players.
Throughout the game the Quakers
gained fully twice as much ground as
the Itahacans. Three well-earned
touchdowns and a goal represented the
h in the quarters. A
and a goal from place
ment were responsible for Cornell's 9
, points. The rush of plays with which
: Pennsylvania scored her first touch
down cut the Cornell defense to pieces as though it had been paper. The Quakers received the initial kick-off, and, starting from their twen-
i ty-flve-yard line, went the remaining
distance in seven plays. On three consecutive runs Mercer made forty-four yards. After Minds had gone through Cornell's line for four yards the Quaker captain came back again for a twenty-five yard sprint. A three-yard
gain by Thayer and a forward pass to Jourdet made the touchdown. Cornell evened things up in the first period with a lucky touchdown. But-
, ler had kicked from his own twenty- ; five yard line and Minds .failed to get : the ball as it hit the ground. Everlch took it 5n the bound, and, behind good i interference by Captain Munk, ran fifty .yards for the touchdown.j Cornell assumed the aggressive in I the second period and played the Quak
ers to a standstill, neither side being able to score. The Ithacans used poor generalship on several occasions, and Butler failed on several attempts at long goals from placement. In the third period Pennsylvania got a touchdown after Mercer caught Butler's poor kick on Ithaca's thirty-five yard line. It took six plays for the Quakers to score, a forward pass to Jourdet taking the ball to the sixtyyard line and Mercer going over for the touchdown. A few minutes later Cornell made her last score from placement, which Butler kicked from the thirty-yard line.

KENOSHA CLOSED TO
PRIZE FIGHTERS
Kenosha, Wis., Dec. L Boxing promoters in Chicago who have been planning to hold fights in Kenosha received Another jolt today when the sheriff of Kenosha county, Andrew G. Stahl, flatly refused to issue a permit for a bout between Johnny v Coulon and George Kltson which was to have been pulled off here on Dec. 8. The sheriff declined to discuss his action more than to state
that similar action probably would be taken in other cases of a similar nature.

GRAND PRIZE WON. BY BRUCE BROWII Makes New Record in Fiat Car; Goes 74.65 Miles an Hour.
Charles Klein, owner of the Clinton team, has been elected president of the Illinois-Missouri League. A Chicago story has it that no less than six of the Cub regulars are to be placed on the market this winter. Because he failed to get a safe tap in the world's series Jack Murray, of the Giants, is tagged to go- on the block. The South Bend club of the Central League has signed a second baseman named Andrew Spycholskl. Did you get it? If "Buddy" Ryan can live up to his reputation gained .on the Paacific coast, Cleveland will surely have a bunch of slusrgers next season.

over the same course was 10. miles. The supreme honor again went to
an Amorican driver piloting a foreign car, but this year it was an Italian ; Flat instead of a German Benz that tarried Bruce-Brown to victory. His olapped time for 'the 411.36 miles was 5:31:29 13-100. Bruce-Brown captured the greatest American trophy only after a fierce, nerve racking struggle in which Eddie Hearne, driving a Benz, was second, two minutes behind, in 5:33:33 7-100 and Ralph Le Palma third in 5:34:40. Xo mishaps involving life or limb marred the running of what probably will he the last of these classic races at Savannah. . Of the sixteen foreign and American racing machines which darted away at 9 a. in. only six finished. The others could not undergo the tearing endurance strain and were eliminated from time to time by the breaking of vital parts. American -drivers demonstrated superiority over the foreign pilots. The result was a surprise, as neither of the two favorites was in the running at
the finish. . . - - Victor Hemmery, the Benz driver, who was heavily played, was not a contender after the seventh lap. Louis Wagner, the other favorite, withdrew his Fiat in the fifteenth lap. Interest of the snectators in the lead-
! ers was so Intense that the few minutes
necssary to drive the twenty-third lap dragged like hours. Bruce-Brown was the first to appear. His car whirled Into .sight, flew around the grandstand curve and again out of sight. Kddie Hearn flashed by the judges' stand one minute and thirty seconds afterward. In vain the spectators shouted and walled for Mulford, but the winner of the Vanderbilt cup race was out of the race.
