The instrument is the most modern invention of its kind and has the full orchestra trappings. The innovation will be tried out this evening at the regular weekly roller skating rink and If it fills the bill Manager Lehman will make a permanent fixture of the musical instrument.

Mrs. Charles Meeker was brought home from the Milwaukee sanitarium on Sunday, reported as being much improved in health through her stay there. The "Woman's Study club met at the library yesterday afternoon. Mrs. D. A. Root had an excellent paper on "Oliver P. Morton." and Mrs. J. T. Gibbs led an interesting and spirited . table talk on "Sources and Modes of Infection." The club was pleased to have as its guest Miss Billman of Indianapolis. Miss Belle Peterson delightfully entertained the members of the Q. A. M. club at her home on South Court street last evening.

All welcome masked or unmasked. , 14-t-w-f Misses Cecilia Abraham and Lila Ostenburg and Algoh Osterburg and Melvln Abraham attended a concert at the Orchestra hall, Chicago, last night, which was given by the Chicago Musical college. Susie Halajchik, 15, and Susie Jetcliak, 14 years of age, who were taken Into custody last Saturday night on the delinquent charge, were taken to Hammond Monday afternoon by Albert Morris of Hammond. The girls consider the matter very much as a joke, and have been cutting tip various capers at the Whiting police station. They said they are glad that they are going away, so they won't have to go home any more. It is thought that when the girls are taken before Judge McMahon of the juvenile court next Saturday for trial, that they will look at their predicament in a much different light. Both the parents of the Halajchik girl and the Jefchak girl will be compelled to appear at the trial. Mrs. Salem of Magoun avenue, Kast Chicago, at whose home the girls have been staying will also be sub
poenaed to appear at the trial. The city council were to have met on Monday night, but owing to a quor
um .being present, no meeting could be held. The aldermen in attendance were Paskwletz. Duggan and Buczkowski. Beginning Nov. IS street Commissioner John Buczkowski will go on a two weeks' vacation. The regular monthly meeting of the
directors of the public library was held on Monday night. The members in attendance were Mrs. II. K. Fifield, Mrs. William Curtis and Messrs. H. K. Muffitt, John M. Thiele and Thomas Boyle. The oRyal Neighbors held their regular meeting on Monday evening. Rev. G. H. Bright, pastor of the M. E. church, Is beginning the work of organizing Boy Scouts in Whiting. The Ladles' Aid society of the M. E. church will hold an all-day session in the church parlors on Thursday. A.ll are welcome. " The Indiana Sunday School association of.Indjana will hold a convention of all denominations in the First M. E. church of Hammond on Nov. 17th. All people Interested In Sunday school work should attend. The program begins at 9 a. m. and lasts all day and evening. Light lunch will be served by the ladies of the church at a small cost. LOWELL. Samuel SIrols, merchant, of Shelby and a leading republican of the southern part of Lake county, was In Lowell on business yesterday. Lon Phelps of Lafayette, a gravel road foreman, was In Lowell yesterday. Nate Brown was quite severely burned about the face and one hand Monday night by gasoline. He went into the basement of Peter Seramur's home to get a bottle of gasoline to use in repairing a hot water bag. He got It, and had poured some of the fluid into the palm of his left hand. He then lighted "a match, which Ignited the gasoline In his hand and also that in the bottle. The flame shot up into his face and burned him severely, but not
dangerously. He was given medical attention ai quickly as possible, and it Is thought he will come out all right, and that his face will not be scared. Albert Foster, president of the State National bank of Lowell, transacted business In Chicago yesterday. George Cottrell. who was so badly burned while kindling a fire with kerosene yesterday morning, is in a very precarious condition, and doubts are expressed as to whether he will pull through. His relatives have been sum
