Virginia Brooks, in her usual pointed forceful manner showed some ways !n whh these Movements cou d be made effective in our own community. She showed special neeus for the protection of our children and those in Weil Hammond from open vice and the secret attempts to entice them into vile resorts, naming some of West Hammond's pestilential spots and some of Hammond's c'tizens who are not doing all in their power to suppress them. She appealed to the townswom-

WOMAN'S CI. IB MEETING. The program of the Woman's club meeting held last Saturday by the Federation day committee was one of unusual Interest. The reports of the Indianapolis meeting showed that th club women of our state are awake, and are proving themselves alive to the needs of the less fortunate, especially the neglected children. The musical numbers were well rendered and appreciated. Mrs. Blackmnu spoke enthuiastically of the royal manner In which Governor Marshal, and others welcomed the four hundred delegates, and their entertainment at the Hotel Claypool and other places, and reported some of the 'Signs of Promise," as presented by Mrs. Clark the retlriig piesldent. A most significant one being that the Federation had aided in opening more libraries than Cam 2git .

Mrs. Sommers told forcefully of the

women who are doing things, and their wonderful achievements as compared

to those of tiie time when women thought themselves unfited to cope with public problems; but she set forth

clearly the great need of puited untlr

iug effort of all women to accomplish

needed reforms in child labor legisla

of children; the abolition of unsanitary

over-ctowned tenements; the preven
