Wa.ller very delightfully entertained a number of children at her home In Truman avenue Saturday afternoon from two to five o'clock. The party was given to celebrate the ninth birthday anniversary of her little daughter. Knth. Thre were fifteen children present and tlwy spent the aft ernoon enjoyably with games and music a dainty luncheon was served at four o'clock. ' A ' birthday cake with lighted candles was a pretty decoration for the table. Chrysanthemums and fall foliage were used among the decorations in the dining room where the prevaiiinf colors were red and gold. "Guest Iay" was observed by the members of the Hammond Woman's club at their meeting Saturday after noon, October 28th In the auditorium of the EIrst Presbyterian church in Soutli Hohman street. The friends of the members were guests at the meeting, The church auditorium was filled with the members and their many friends who gathered before three o'clock to losten to the program prepared for the afternoon. Mrs. J. M. Turner, the presi dent of the club, presided during the business session. After roll call and the reading of the secretary's report the meeting was given over to the music committee of which Mrs. Charles G. -Hohman is chairman and Mrs. L. A Mlnard Is vice chairman. Mrs. Hohman announced th program, the opening number of which was a selection by the Kunst orchestra. Miss Mayfa Halnies of Detroit was the reader. She gave a group of readings among them "The Long Distance Telephone" and "The Mother Look." she resjonded to an en core. Miss Haines has appeared before the members of the Hammond Woman" Club at a number of their meetings and her program is always enjoyed. Sir, Kunst gave a violin solo, accopanied on the piano by Miss Mae Hansen. His solo was one of the attractive numbers on the program. Mrs. George A Schmidt delighted the audience with her solos. She sang a group of three. "Du bist wie cine Blume," "Tommy Lad and "Come Out, Mr. Sunshine, and re sponded to an encore. Mr. Allen Boge the pipe organist at the Auditorium in Chicago accompanied Mrs. Schmidt on the nlano. Miss Haines gave "Tho Matinee Girl" as another of her read ings and the program rlose.1 after tw pretty cornet solos by Mrs. C G. Hon man. Her solo was "A Dream of Para dif" and as an encore she gave "The Rosarv" bv Nevin. Miss Mae Hansen accompanied Mrs. Hohman on the piano The announcement was made of the next meeting to be held In two "weeks, It will be "Federation Day" and the re port of the Federation meeting at Tn dlan.ipolis will be read. Lodge Assemblies There was a laree attendance of members at tho meeting of Dorcas Re beckah lodge last Saturday evening in I. O. O. F. hall 5K State street. Ituvas the regular weekly meeting and the usual business end social program was followed. The names of several candidates for membership were balloted upon and plans were made for the meeting in two weeks when there will be class initiation. The members also made partial plans for a Hallowe'en party to be given in the near future. The next regular meeting of the members will take place Saturday evening, November 4th. A special meeting of the members of Triumph Council No. 1 l. of U will be held this afternoon in I. O. O. F. hall in State street. It was desired., that many . members attend as business of importance will be transacted. There was a large number of candidates initiated into the secret works and mysteries of Hammond lodge of Moose last night in the K. of P. hall the degree team did fine work, and all were well pleased. There . were visiting Moose from Elkhart, Goshen, South Bend. Gary, Anderson, Muncie and Indianapolis, also several member from
Chicago. After the work was put on a smoker was enjoyed and remarks were made by members of the lodge and the organization department. Mr. M. M. Mahoney spoke on the wonderful growth of tho order in America and also in the state of Indiana. The order has 810 subordinate lodges with a membership of over 300.000. Mr. J. S. Maholm spoke on the growth 'of the Hammond lodge and urged the hearty co-operation of all the members toward
making Hammond one of the big lodges of the state. He aims to build up tho lodge to a membership of 1,000 and he is of tho belief that it will be dona within the next sixty days, as Mr. F. A. ngles has started a vigorous cam paign and will work with th members of Hammond lodge and its officers, all of wltom are very enthusiastic. Brother McGarry spoke of club features of the Moose and believes that Hammond lodge will soon be able to have the best club and lodge hall in this city. Broth er J. P. Smith is the Past Dictator. Mr. Kingman has return ed to Chicago from Houston, Texas and is located in business. Miss Lole Hughes was the guest of Miss Beatrice Hansen at her home In Rimbach avenue and Miss Ilia Hughes visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes in Warren street. Miss Alma Hess of Lowell and Miss Alice Hess, a teacher In the Hesville schools were the guests of their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hess at their home iij Michigan avenue Sunday.
