The entertainment for the afternoon wa cards and the guests played several games of progressive pedro. Mrs. C. K. Jackson won the' first honors in the games and Mrs. Charles Luthman, the second. The consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. Charles Hubbard. Following the awarding of the prizes the guests, were served with a two course luncheon. The covers were laid for twelve guests. Club Opens Season
The opening of the University club's social season for 1911-12 took place last night In the beautiful club rooms and wan a most enjoyable affair. Bridge whist was the diversion and was played from six tables. Handsome prlies were awarded to W. D. Webb who carried off the men's honors a leather traveling set and Mrs. V. S. Reiter won the ladies prize a handsome hammered brass jardenier. A collation was served after the"card games in charge of the entertainment committee. Mr. Rouse of Madison, Jnd., a sister of Mrs. E. F. Johnston was the only out-of-town guest. - Those present were Mesrs. and ' Mesdames W. Q. Paxton, Peter Crumpacker, H. E. Sharrer W. D. Webb, V. S. Reiter, P. A. Parry, T. W. Oberlin. G. II. Austin. C. A. Smith. August Schneider, F R. Mott, Miss Irene R. Mott, Miss Frances Kingsley. vocal selection after which a program of dances was enjoyed during the even ing. Mr. Rinehardt Elster directed the music for the dancing and his program was well chosen. The dance program was attractively . arranged. During several of the dances the only light In the hal came trom the Jack o' lanterns a v an dshaded candles and the effect was ery pretty. After the program ref reshments were served. The evening's entertainment was one of the pleasant est of the season and a series of parties will be given this winter to which the frienSs of the members will receive In vitations.
