RALSTON CHOICE OF
EDITORS
TIMES RlREtr. AT STATE CAPITAL. Indianapolis. Ind., Oct. i?. The poll of Pomoeratlo editors on the question of their choice for Democratic candidate for Governor, whlh was taken by a South Bend paper, is believed here by the politicians to represent the true situation in the party with reference to the Governorship. The paper's poll showed that Samuel M. Ralston, of Ixfbanon. is the choice of most of the editors. He received double the nuinyfr of votes that were (riven to any other candidate, and that Is believed to be about the proportion of the vote that he wli receive in the state convention. Party men here believe that
Ralston will be nominated on the first ballot. Kalston has been for months perfecting- his organization throughout the state, and he has practically all of the old wheel horse of the party behind him. The fact that he made such an early start nnd lined up the working forces so thoroughly seems to Indicate that he has left little for any other candidate to d. There Is one condition that has appeared In the Governorship fight among the Democrats that is significant In this respect, and that is that many ot the Democrats who are aainst Taggrart in national politics are nevertheless for Kalston for Governor. Everybody
knows that Ralston is a Taggrart candidate for the nomination, but this does not appear to be making any difference to the anti-Tapgart Democrats who are supporting him. A well-known antl-Tagart Democrat
from Anderson was in the city a few days ago, and in a conversation he stated clearly that he was in favor of the nomination of Woodrow Wilson for President and Ralston for Governor. Taggart is wovkln against the nomination of Wilson and this man knows It. The fact is that Ralston has his own popularity among the Democrats of the state, and this is sure to be of great help to him when the time comes to make a nomination for Governor. While thero has been a great deal of talk about the prospect that Taggart would finally double cross Ralston and throw his infl jence to W. H. O'Brien
for the nomination for Governor, yet!
there does not appear to be any ground for this theory. Wherever you find fa. Taggart man you find him talking for Ralston. The entire Taggart machine is behind Ralston at this time. Taggart's old time lieutenants are denouncing emphatically the double cross story. They say that Taggart and all of his influence will be for Ralston. They say that O'Brien la not a candidate and that he will not be a candidate, unless at the last moment in the convention It is found tha Ralston cannot be nominated. But, they say. this situation will not arise, because Ralston is certain of the nomination. Ono
of the best known Taggart leader's, who always knows what Is going on and who helps to shape the policy of the Taggart machine, explained this matter in this way: "Taggart does not propose to ho caught in the next state convention the way he was caught at the last convention, when Marshall was nominated for Governor, in the 1908 convention Taggart thought Ralston was sure of the nomination. But at the last
minute he found that I Krt Slack was
gaining on Ralston, and that he prob
ably would overtake him and land the nomination himself. Taggart had no other candidate than Ralston to whom he could throw his vote. He was caught in a jam. The only way he
could beat Slack, whom he did not like
and who was fighting him, was by
throwing his trength to Marshall. He

Do not confuse Crisco with othercooking products. It is an absolutely new and heretofore unknown product. It is purely vegetable and guaranteed under Government Laws to contain no animal fats. Crisco gives so much better results; is so much more healthful and combined with the better results, is so very economical, that the head of the New York Cooking School considers it of the greatest benefit of any food product introduced for years. ' , Crisco is an unusual product of special value. Many of its advantages are so unusual that they seem unbelievable, until you have demonstrated them for yourself.

didn't want Marshall nominated, but he
felt that Marshall was better for him than Slack would be, so he gave Mar-
hall his votes and nominated him. But
his time he does not intend to get
caught in that position again. He is going to have two strings to his bow.
le will have O'Brien on hand ready to ake the nomination if such an emer
gency arises again. And that is why
ale J. Crittenberger, of Anderson, is
alked of as a candidate for auditor of
tat.e. o Hrien is a candidate for re-
nomination for that office, and he will get the nomination again if everything goes right. But if it oomes to a point where O'Brien has to take the nomina-
ion for Governor Crittenberger will bo
ready to take the nomination for audi-
or of state. Crittenberger is a full-
fledged Taggart machine man, and his nomination for auditor of state would be all right with Taggart."
There is one thing about the South
Bend paper's poll of the Democratic edi-
ors that must be kept in mind, and
that i3 that a alrge majority of the
Democratic editors' of the state aro
Taggart men, and naturally their vot
In the poll taken would naturally be for Ralston, since he is the Taggart
candidate for the place.
The poll shows, for another thing,
that John W. Boehne, of Evansville, is Raleton's strongest competitor for the nomination for Governor, but this Iins been known to be the fact ever since
Boehne's name was announced. But it Is true, according to reports that
come direct from the First district.
that the Democratic leaders of that section of the state are not as enthusi
astic in his belf as they might be. One
ell known Democratic leader from
that district said the other day that they were al for Boehne, but that they
were not working overtime on the Job.
Wih this handicap in his own district.
Boehne cannot hope to make very great progress in his campaign.
