been spending . the last few days In Whiting making arrangements for the large factory which he wll build in this elty. Senator Jenkins has now completed arrangements with the Standard oil Co. for the piping of the Oil into his plant, as 2,000 gallons of fue loll will he consumed per day, for the melting of the sand. Th contract for the electric power has also been made with the Electric Light Co. The senator went to Chicago last evening after having been the guest of Senator F. N. Gavit, but will , return today with the agent of the Indiana Harbor Belt railroad to make arrangements for the switch tracks o he installed. The news of tne new factory hasi caused great rejoicing in Whiting. The plant wil he much larger now than was at first anticipated. Instead of the three acres for which the deal was first made, he has decided to take the entir strip between New York and White

Oak avenue, consisting of about eight acres, having a frontage of about 600 fee-t on New York avenue, there being at first only a frontage of 330 feet. An appropriation of $75,000 has been made for the building and the contract for the concrete work which has been iven to Nedjl & Greenwald, will be a big job, the concrete wall being up to the level of the first floor. Above the first floor the building will be structural iron, and will be absolutely fire proof throughout. Arrangements have also been completed whereby cinders will bo hauled In for filling. The location of this factory in Whiting is a big thing for this city, considering that it 'a now gong to be built on larger proportions than was at first Intended, as it is now thought that It will employ in the neighborhood of four hundred men. Senator Jenkins, as he bas been in this business all his life, having hU two, sons in business with him. II f asks no bonus from the city nor would he accept one. He said it is purely a buslnes proposition, and wanted to

select his own site and build his own factory. Aftes viewing the entire Calumet region, he decide dthat he could receive more benefits from locating In this city, than In any other. Owing to our excellent railway facilltie, and superior transportation, he feels it to his advantage to have selected the present tract of land. He can also take advantage of the Chicago freight rates. the Whiting factory, being for th purpose of carry, ing on his western trade, while the one at Kottomo will be for supplying his eastern trade. He is also much taken up with Whiting as a residence district and says It will be an ideal place for his -employes to live in. Senator Jenkins Intends leaving for his home in Kokomo this evening, but will return again the first part of next week, to superintend the construction of the building, which he Intends having almost erected before the extreme cold weather. Mrs. Jenkins will accompany him next week and she will be here for several days as the guest of Mrs. Frank N. Gavlt. It Is our business to guard against land troubles.
