purchased a large amount of desirable
property fronting on Hohman street, and has sold a number of two-acre plots. Next spring he will erect a residence, on six acres of this property, that will "cost not less than $30,000.
Richard Winkler and Dr. T. W. Ober-
have also purchased acre tracts. One Deal Starts Other.
Fred Humpfer then began to note the
trend southward and he sold two tracts, one of five acres to P. A. Parry and one of two acres to Frank Hammond. Dr. William D. Wets also sub-divided his farm into two-acre plots and now has the lots on the market. . It is expected that by next summer there will be a number of fine residences erected south of the property of the Hammond & Suburban Realty Co., all of which indicates the tremendous trend In this direction of the people of Hammond, who desire high grade residential property. The Idea of developing this property was conceived by Roscoe E. Woods, who at once secured options on the lots and acres from the eight Zachau heirs, and also from Father H. M. Plaster of St. Joseph's church. The plan met with the enthusiastic approval of a number of the most re
sponsible business men of the city' and their financial support was enlisted.
Within a short time enough stock in the proposed company had been subscribed to make it an assured success. Company Organised. The new company was incorporated last Friday by Attorney W. T. Hardy. Following the incorporation Roscoe E. Woods, Frank Hammond, Lincoln V. Cravens, Jerry Brennan and Richard Winkler were elected directors. On Saturday afternoon the directors met and elected Roscoe E. Woods president, L. V. Cravens vice president, and Frank Hammond secretary-treasurer. There are twenty stockholders. Later on Saturdaj' afternoon the
Zachau heirs appeared at the Hammond Savin srs & Trust company and the deal
was closed. It is not expected that the lots will be put en the market until next spring. The laying out of this sub-division will change the entire map of the south side of Hammond. Hohman street will be made 84 feet wide throughout the quarter of a mile of the length of the property. Kenwood avenue will be extended all of the way through to Calumet avenue and will be made 80 feet wide, Zachau avenue will be 80 feet wide and there are two north and south streets and one other east and west street, which have not yet been
named, that will be 65 feet wide. Petitions to the cornmlssioners for another

Indiana Harbor, Oct. 16. The Chi
cago Giants, one of the best semi-pro
teams in Chicago, upheld their reputation yesterday by defeating Indiana Harbor In a well-played game, the score blng 2 to 0. There was a small crowd present, but had the fans known how good a game was in prospect. ( and also the amount of entertainment that right fielder Green of the visitors was to afford the audience by his coaching, there is no doubt a great many who went into Chicago to witness the Sox-Cub. game at Comlskey park would have stayed
at home ana seen a good brand of ball
and had lots of fun at the same time.
Jimmie Galvin caught -for the Har
bor and was the star actor on that team. Besides catching a perfect game he made two hits and a sacrifice

Homewood is practically sold out and is J result. The fog had a peculiar smell
rapidly being built up. The new suddlvislon of the Hammond & Suburban Realty company will be the next step
southward. MnHi Tnterent Shown. With what little publicity tne project had been given up to the time the deal
was closed, there have been many in
quiries for lots in the new property. The idea seems to be, "Go south and get more land." Incidentally with the straightening of Hohman street it will be extended southward to the Ridge road south of the river and is expected to become the
show street of the city. Its great width and its splendid pavement make it a beautiful thoroughfare. Considering the location of tha property of the Hammond & Suburban
Realty company, the fact that the better residential district of Hammond has always been confined to the territory between the Monon tracks and the state line, the fact that the property of this company is to be sub-divided along exceddingly liberal lines end the growing demand for property of this character, it is expected that the new sub
division is sure to be a success.
