TAG DAY SUCCESS AFTER AIL
Despite unfavorable weather last Saturday, Hammond's tag day netted the poor of the city the neat sum of $304.15. Considering that only fifty-six of the workers out of the expected 100 ventured forth and that the taggers
were able to work only half the time
because of the rain, the day Is consid
ered a big success. Under more favor able circumstances the sum would un doubtedly have been doubled.
Last Saturday was Hammond's third tag day. The first one two years ago
netted $725 and the second $420.
Tag day was held under the Joint auspices of the philanthropic committee
of the Hammond Woman's club and
the Jewish Ladies' Aid society. Mrs.
Will Lash and Mrs. I. I. Modjeska.
chairman, respectively, of the two or
ganizations, today expressed J their thanks to the public which contributed
and to the workers who were indefatig able In their zeal.
The fact that more than $300 were
contributed under the adverse clrcum
stances, is evidence that Hammond Is
ready to rise to the occasion to help
along in the name of charity. Had
tag day been a total failure last Sat
urday, steps' ould have been taken to hold another one this fall, but inasmuch as It was comparatively big success, nothing will be done along this
line again this year. With the encour
agement that the two organizations
have received in the past they are de
termined to work harder than ever in
the future.
tThe sums collected will be divided equally between between the Jewish
Ladles' Aid society and the philan
thropic committee, who in turn will use
the funds to help the poor this winter.
