Secret service operatives connected i with the department of justice who' have been showing how official pro-j

tection is given to gambling and the white" slave traffic in Chicago, have made "Gary a' new base' of operations. Last night Operative Kerngwald arrested Joseph Solomon, a well-known Gary Persian, in connection with the Ruby MZell Eshmiel white slave case. The government men also made two other arrests at the steel mill gates, but the police refust; to give the names of. the prisoners. As told' In yesterday1 Times, a white slave Investigation has been going on ,Gary, for some time. Three or four secret service operatives have been Sri the city for foor months and. some

men "higher up," it is said, may be taken in the drag net. The latest arrest followed three others made in Chicago in connection with charges preferred by Mrs. Kshmiel, a 16-year-old . girl, wife of a Gary Persian. Those arrested In Chicago are: "SAMUEL, KSHMIEL 4S years old, whom the girl claims to have married when she was 13 years old. "SAMUEL. JOSEPH, 70S Dearborn avenue. "DAVID- 1bAROO. "CHARLES' KARIB. Kshmeil' is charged with pandering and the others are accused of being accessories after the fact. Mrs. Eshmiel sal3 her mother and father died when she was six years old and that she was later adopted by a woman In Milwaukee. Over a year ago she ran away from the woman's home and came to .Chicago. She says she was married to Eshmiel in Chicago, December 24, 1910. To Gary newspaper men Mrs. Eshmiel told a pitiful story of her life as a white slave in Gary. She said that with her husband she- lived at the 'Wabash inn, in a fait at Seventh and Washington street, later at Sixth and Washington street, and later on in the rear of a saloon south of Lakewoods park. Her confession is said to Involve many people. She told that her husband beat her when she was ill. The secret service operatives are making a rigid Investigation not only into this but Into other cases.

While most of us are struggling with htgh prices and small Incomes, trying to lay up a little money, for old age or to give the children a better start, there are other folks who seem to be able to put away from $500 to $1,000 at a time every little while. This is because they 'watch for the feest chance to invest their money and when they see an'opportunity they grab it. Getting in ahead of the railroad and the resulting rise in real estate values is the surest way of doubling or tripling your money. For example, right now the,re is, the biggest chance of a rentury to invest in own lots in Forr Fraser, in the heart of the cnoicest section of Canada, and realize :mniensc

profits. History has repealed Itself

doiea times in the great hustling cen

ters of population in Western Canada.

, Prince Rupert, B. C. was a wildernc3 four years ago, while now tt has 4,000 resident and ,o.ts have, jumped from $100 to $300, and even to thousands of do.'lars. .

Calgary, Alta., had only 4.090 foiks in 19.01,but has.4oj)00 today, and its $100 towns lots of. a few years ago can't be bought for lss than $1,000 to $3,000. - ! Edmonton. Alta.. started with :,249 ' people In 1901 and has 30,000 people now lots that sold there three .years ago from Jloo to $150 easily bring

$1,000 to $3,000 each. Fort Eraser is the next in line for this kind of development and promises an even brighter future. It Is so favorably situated as to be known a . the "Hub City" cf British Columbia and is directly on the line of "the registered survey of the great transcontinental railway which the millions of capital of the Grand Trunk Pacific are pushing acrosi Cp::ada. Concerning this great railway, Wm. E. Curtis, the famous correspondent of the Chicago Record-Herald, says- "The hew Quebec bridge Is a part of, ths grand enterprise now being carried o by the Dominion government for a continuous line of railways between' the two o.-eans. The section east oT Quebec has been under construction by the

government for several years and v.-.en finished will be leased by the Grand Trunk Railroad for ninety-nine year3 upon a 3 per cent basis. The government Is' also building the middle section
