NEW HOME RUN RECORD

:" Howard Barringer, the North Vernon kid playing with Dubuque In t'ne Three-Eye League, has set up a freak home-run record. H made three four-base drives in three consecutive games. Darringer was tried out by the Indians a few seasons ago, but seemed too young and too light for fast company. He has been going fast in the Three-Eye, and may be ready for high society before long.

. Milwaukee, AVis.,Sept. 8. Ad Wolgast. the lightweight champion, who isj preparing for his bout with Packey " oFarland here Sept. 15, stuck to his strenuous program today and presented the many fans who traveled to Nelson's road house with an excellent idea , of his real ability. After skipping the rope and shadow : boxing for the better half of an hour the champion took on his old sparring

partner, Hobo Dougherty, for two fast rounds and then worked a couple more with Freddie Hicks, a local middleweight. The champ showed plenty of speed and hustled the big middleweight around the ring in fine style. Manager Jones watched his fighter carefully.

Wolgast is already below weight and

intends to work hard until next Tues

day. when will ease up and rest un

til the d of the match.

CUBS BEAT REDS; GAfl GIANTS Twin Victory, 3 to 0 and 4 to f 2, Puts Chance's Men One : Game Behind Leaders.

I game drove home two men and won

i the game. Incidentally, the home run ! was Frank' twenty-first for the seaj son and he needs only five more to set a record. j Next to the timely batting of Mr. j Schulte, the prowess of Johnny Kvers was most noteworthy. The Trojan was ; there with two timely hits, one a 'sin-

match between Louis O'Orio of Chicago and Hugh Henderson of Pittsburgh for a purse of $1,125, the score today stood two games to the credit of Henderson and one in favor of O'Orio, with eight games drawn. Henderson won last night's game.

OTOOLE CONSULTS BONESETTER REESE Pittsburgh, Pa., Sept. 8. Marty O'Toole has been offered $22,500 for fifteen weeks In vaudeville during this winter. The Irish star has not decided what he will do, and probably will have a talk with President Barney Dreyfuss first. The offer came from New York. Though he has pitched wonderful ball in his three games to

date, the high priced arm is very sore and O'Toole will pay the bonesettet a

visit.

MURPHY PROMISES '

KNOCKOUT IN GO

WITH M'HENRY

Eddie "Murphy, the crack Boston

lightweight who makes his western de

club's show at Racine, promises the

fans who will journey to the Wiscon

slntpwn a knockout in his first ap

pearance in this section of the country and says he will put the sleep produc

er on Young McHenry, who is to op

pose him, before the scheduled six

rounds are over.

Murphy's workout before the local

fans at O'Connell's pleased these who witnessed it immensely. He took ou

three battlers and showed clearly that

he is a glove wielder of much class. He demonstrated he fad a powerful left and a wicked ' right, with plenty of steam behind both. He also is clever of

foot, quick of eye, and agile ts a cat in getting' away from punches. In ad

dition, he covers well, can take a hear

ty punch if necessary, and return with

plenty of speed.

Tommy Schupp was the first to essay a bout with the Boston boy and suffered a smart lacing, although Murphy did not let out. "Special Delivery" Hirsch next encountered Eddie and found that his aggressiveness was futile, for Murphy, by artful dodging evaded most , of the boy's rushes. Danny Goodman was easy for Murphy, being tired frofti a grueling four rounds with Cyclone Johnny Thompson.
