can be more effectually handled by a closer unit than by paying their taxes into the township fund. The taxes which are now being paid into the school and road funds could be applied to improvements in the community to be incorporated, without spreading' them over the entire township. Then, too. St. John Is on the principal highway for autoists going into the south-' ern part of Lake county, and the result is that the people in the town 'are the victims of both the speed maniacs and the dust which Is raised like clouds by. the passing machines. As an incorporated town the speeders could be' checked by a marshal, and -the' streets
could be sprinkled with oil so as to lay the dust. The necessarj- legal proceedings are In the hands of the law firm of Barr and Wheeler of Crown Point. The proposals for incorporation can be found at the business places of Messrs. Ram
mer and Miller, and will remain there for twenty days. The petition will be filed with the county commissioners at the October session. The county commissioners will then set a date about the third week in October at which time the people vote on the question of Incorporation. The returns of the election will be made to the county commissioners at their first session In November, and the election for town officials will then be set for about the third week in November. SelTerervllle files Its first election returns with the -county commlsisoners next week.
