FURNITURE AND PIG LEAD TOPICS
Mayor Smalley called a special council meeting for last night to dispone of
some matters which needed urgent attention. Among these were three contracts entered Into by the board of public works. One of the contracts was for the city hall furniture, which is to be furnished by Henry Huber, the second for forty-three tons of pig lead to be furnished by the United States Metal Kenning company, the lead to be used in the laying of the new water pipe. The third contract is for the big concrete well, which is to be built by the Ahlborn Construction company, and which Is to be used In connection with the enlarged waterworks system. A Ave hundred dollar appropriation from the general fund for the health and charity fund was allowed. The sum of 11,500 was allowed from the general fund to pay for the city hall furniture and the painting of the exterior of the city hall. In the absence of Otto Duelke, the city clerk, who Is on his vacation, Edward Aubry, the city controller, acted as city clerk.

CHiarged With Assault.
Mike Cemus swore out a warrant for
the arrest of Louis Forgezas this
morning in Judge Ames court and
charges Forgezas with assault and
battery.
The warrant will be served on the
defendant this afternoon. The date of trial has not been set.
Police Get No News.
No information has been learned by
the Hammond police who have been asked by Sheriff Grant to aid in his
search for Albe Reisni, a Crown Point boy.
The lad left his home at Crown Point about a week ago and was seen last
Saturday In Hammond, The parents have no clue to his whereabouts.
He is describe as being 16 years old, brown hair, 'gray eyes, medium built.
When he left home he wore a gray
suit, black shirtiand a gray cap.
Sues for Divorce. Kathryn B. Dickey has started an action for divorce against Clyde-" O. Dickey. Tljey were married in Crown Point, May S3, 1910 and separated in September.0911. She says that he would become intoxicated and then after having treated her brutally and used vile language towards her would apologise. She says that he neglected to provide for her. She asks that her maiden name, Katheryn Jones, be restored. The ease was filed by Attorney J. K. Etlnson.

Clabby Is Back. Jimmy Clabby and a number of his Hammond followers returned from Milwaukee today, where he fought Mike

Although the bout was a no-decision affair the popular opinion was that Clabby had a shade the better of the go. Clabby returned today In order to play with the Hammond baseball team Sunday and Mondays on which he has won a berth recently. Jimmy said if all the ''boys took as much interest and played as hard as I try, why we would be on top of the ladder.

seen at Hammond on Saturday evening, leaving his parents' home. After working In the hayfleld without notifying them. Abbie is about 15 years of age, has light gray eyes, brown hair, wore a gray suit, black cap and black shirt. His left eye was crooked, giving him an unusual appearance. No word or trace of him has been discovered since last Saturday and naturally his parents are on the anxious seat.

Sale of Acreage. The principal activity In real estate In Hammond 'was the purchase last week by W. G. Paxton of 27 acres of land south of Hammond and the sale of a number of two acre lots to Hammond people for suburban residences. The Hammond-Gary Realty Co. is making a few sales. The owners of the Franklin addition have abandoned their down town office and are transacting all of their business on the site of their addition.
Traveling Man Arrested. William J., Murphy, a traveling man of Blnghamton, N. Y., was arrested last night by Officer Stelow at State and Oakley on a charge of drunkenness. Murphy was very abusive to Officer Stelow when he was arrested and did not like the fact that he had to spend the night at the station. He appeared before iudpe Barnett this morning and plead guilty, receive tng a fine of $1 and costs, which he paid.
