Three members of the Gary common council, Baukus, Gibson and Siymanski, have Issued a call for a special session of the council to be held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. It is believed that the principal business that the three statesmen have in jmind is to pass the ordinance giving all of the police and firemen a ten dollar a month raise. This increase in pay. If passed, will tap the city treasury to the extent of $6,000 annually Finance Committee Anxious. According to members of the council
finance committee there is no money available to pay the raise. , The city's general fund has $18,000 cash on hand. In November $75,000 will be available from the tax collections, making a total receipt of $93,000. It costs $666 a day, or $20,000 a month, to govern Gary and as no more funds will be available until next May the total expenses will be $180,000 with receipts of $93,000. Big Deficit In Sight. This will leave a deficit .of $87,000,
to which may be added nine months of police and fire Increases amounting to
$4,500. There would then be a deficit
pf $91,500.
To tide the city over until May will
mean an era of protested warrants
bearing interest at S per cent, or about
$500 a month. These warrants may
lattr be taken up by a bond issue.
There is also a question whether the
local banks will load up very heavily on Gary warrants.

amounting . to ;$31. 10. He is a boiler
maker working, at Indiana Harbor, and when asked if he would pay his fine, Marko said: "No I need a vacation any
way, and beside the police are not go ing to wear shoes on my money,"
He accordingly was taken to Crown Point yesterday to spend his month's

morning dawned and the baby had not. been found. It was then that Jake, Teitleman's eagle eye discovered the object of the search disconsolately re-( posing 4n the hallway leading to the scene of the hobo festivities. He tenderly carried the baby around among the marts of trade and finance in Michi- '
