PATIENCE ON-A MONUMENT THERE (Special to Thb Timesl) East Chicago, Aug. 8. There was a long wait for a quorum by those memers of the city council who gathered at the council chamber to attend the session at th,e usual hour, but patience was finally 'rewarded and the session proceeded. The county was given permission to go ahead with a number of jobs of paving which will prove quite beneficial when put in, the paving being of macadam In Drumraond street from 139th to 141st, 141st from Drummond to Alder and Alder from 141st to 137th. The matter was brought up In the shape of an ordinance, the rules were suspended and the ordinance passed. Another suspension of the rules was required to pass an appropriation ord inance appropriating $640 from the general fund for the election of an addjjion to the city barn. A resolution was introduced indorsng the $4,000 levy mde by the library board a couple of years ago for the maintenance of the library. This Is a matter of form only, the levy having been already made and fixed by state law, so that no action of the council can be made which will affect It either to Increase or to lessen It. EAST CHICAGO ELKS BEAT CHICAGO HEIGHTS - (Special to The Times.) " ' East Chicago, Ind.. Aug. 8. The ball game between the East Chicago Elks and those of the Chicago Heights lodge at Chicago Heights on Saturday was a great event and resulted in a score of to 3 in favor of East Chicago. Some features of the game were Abe Goodfrlend's black eye, Walter Spenc er's and Frank Garrett s home runs and the social session In the evening Frank Keep redeemed himself and wae officially re-instated and is a hit more cockev, (though still somewhat chas tened.) than he was after the last game. Frank says,. -wun me ana Tinker both on the job again, baseball la looking up." Walter Spencer says h never knew before how easy It was to make home run and it 1s his Intention to make one, just for exercise at every game hereafter. "Why, its just as easy: says waiter. "Mo trouble at all." Walter played third base and it is lucky for Abe Goqdfriend that he got his belt in the ,eye the first tnw at bat as the Incident served to pre vent him from seeing what an elegant third baseman Walter made. The accident happened when a ball caromed off Abe's bat resulting in a put out o both the player and the eye, with two assists, pitcher to bat to eye. Ed Jenkins took Abe's place at bat doing noble.
