(Special to The Times.) Indiana Harbor, Ind.', Aug. 4. Word has been received by the East Chicago company regarding the. transaction which called Vice President C. A. Westberg and Judge "Walter J. Riley to New
York last week, and which involves the
sale of fifteen acres of ground by the East Chicago company to a detinning concern. The letter states that the concern
has decided upon the southern one of the locations under contemplation. ! This is located at 151st street and the canal, the other site considered being at a point where the west .branch of the canal intersects with Forsyth avenue. There now remains but a few trackage details to arrange, after which it Is expected that no time will be lost In closing up the contract providing for the transfer. The transfer will in all probability be effected next week. I The name of the concern which is

doing the purchasing and which has
yet to be Incorporated Is withheld for the present, but it is known that substantial men are back of the proposition. It Is understood that the price received for the property was approximately $2,000 an acre. The location is an especially good one for the concern, which will have extensive business dealings with the Grasselll Chemical company and the United States Metals Refining company. There will be a near by market
for the waste of the company, the Iron left on the material from which the tin la to be extracted and which will be mostly tin cans, will be pressed and sold to the mills as scrap. The plant, which Is to be erected in the near future, will employ about 250
men. The labor Is for the most part unskilled, but as the plant is expected
to run day In and day out and will not
be subject to the fluctuations In the
steel market as are the mills and many of the plants hereabouts which pay higher wages, but which close down
during dull periods, It Is regarded as
an acquisition to the town.
inal railroad on both sides of Kuclld avenue. The space on the seast side of that thoroughfare will be occupied by the coal yard as far. as Parish avenue, while the lumber yard will be located on the west side of Euclid. Indiana Harbor at present has two good lumber yards, but the Twin cities have room for another business of this character, and will welcome the new yards as a good addition to the town.
The Manhattan company Is a large conrem with headquarters In South Chicago. Judge Riley reported in addition that the detinning plant which Is seek-; lng to locate here, would most likely close Its deal for the site within a very few days. There seems no reason to doubt that the project Is assured. j The meeting last night was the first held in quite a while, the warm weather in the past having made session almost impossible. There was a good
crowd present and It Is believed that from now on the old-time splr:t and
good will characterise the club proceedings, j The matter of improving the parks was brought up but is was temporarily dropped when the club was Informed that Mayor Ff-hlleker had already formulated plans which would cover a.l the points the club directors had taken 1
under consideration with reference to '
the proposed enterprise. I

IBmiMs Up -TTirMe f"JpHE manager of a large department store was figuring how to increase the suburban trade. It was suggested to him that he rebate telephone charges on goods ordered by suburban customers. t The plan worked like a charm. His telephone orders increased rapidly and his sales broke records. He put in a private exchange to care for his telephone orders. The enterprising merchant finds the Bell Local and Long Distance Telephone Service a great help to business.
