It was the evening for the regular olmonthly meeting and all the members were present. In company with the) -members. Miss Shearer entertained Miss Lillian Abbott of Peducah, Ky., and Mrs. Charles Chants. One of the features of j the evening "was the election of officers; and Mrs. trunk Martin was chosen president and Miss Edna Swltzer. secretary and treasurer. After the business meeting an enjoyable time was spent in a social way. Music and games were the diversions. The serving of a dainty luncheon concluded the pleasant meeting. Miss Edna Switser was named as the next hostess and she will entertain in two weeks at her home In Russell street. MRS. RYAN A IIOSTKSS. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent by the members if the Sunshine Club as the guests of Mrs. J. P. Ryan at her home in Claude street yesterday. It was the regular fcl-monthly meeting and the members were all nresent. The afternoon was spent very pleasantly at the card tables where several games of pedro were awarded. J Mrs. Iaa Hoffman was nostess and .very pleasantly entertained the members of Circle No. 1 at her home in Indiana avenue yesterday afternoon. It was the regular bi-monthly meeting .and several of the members attended. ; The hostess had a number of guests not members of thn society. The guests played cards at several small tables in the parlors during the afternoon. After several games of pedro the honors were awarded; Mrs. John C. Becker and Mrs. Mat Klein received the first and second honors and the consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. Meyer. The guest I prise was won by Mrs. J. Fox. A dainty luncheon was .'served following tht games. The covers were laid at the small tables. Mrs. Leonard Knoerier will be the next hostess and will enter tain the ladies of the society at her home in Clinton street in two weeks on Thursday. POSTPONE THE MEETING. There was no meeting of the members of the Fern Leaf Linen Club yesterday afternoon which was the day for th regular meeting. The meeting was postponed for two weeks when Mrs. J M. Dufrain will entertain at ;her homo in Truman avenue. The afternoon will ! be spent in a pleasant social way with cards and music. Only the club members will be guests at the party. NO MEETING THIS WEEK. The young ladles of the a O. H. Club decided to postpone the meeting which was announced to take place last avei.ing at the home of Miss Ethel Erleoae.i. The meeting was postponed oa account of the. absence of several of the members from the city. The members will not meet regularly during the remainder of the summer and announcement will be made later of the next meeting. ' ENTERTAINS AT DINNER. Dr. and Mrs. S. A. Club postponed the pcnlc which they announceu would take place yesterday at the lake front. The members are planning for a picnic to take place Thursday, July 13th at which a pleasant time is anticipated. The ladies will go to the park in the morning and serve a picnic luncheon at noon. The remainder of the day will be devoted to needle work The picnic will take the place of the regular bi-monthly meeting-. PICNIC AT LAKE FROST. One of the pelasant social affairs of last evening was a picnic given By the members of St. Paul's Lutheran Leaguo at the lake front. The picnic took the place of the regular bi-monthly meet-' ing which was announced to take place in th school hall, the corner of Sibley street and Oakley avenue. Between thirty and forty young people of the church left Hammond for the park at six-thirty o'clock. They took their suppers and served on the lawn. An enjoyable evening was spent with games and contests. The affair was reported as having been very enjoyable. The next meeting will take place In two weeks and a large attendance 1 desired. The business meeting will be followed by a short social session. MO.VOfl MISS OTTO. Honoring Miss Frieda Otto, whose marriage to J. S. Long will take place this summer Mrs. Frank Dorsey en. tertained a number of young people at her home in Beall avenue last evening. The party was in the nature of a linen shower and the bride-to-be received a number of pretty gifts in linen. The guests spent the evening very pleasantly in social conversation, and music was a feature or the evening. A dainty luncheon was served at ten o'clock. The party was among the first of a series of pleasant entertainments that is being given for Miss Otto following the announcement of her engagement to Mr. Long. A meetine of the members of the Martha society of the First Christian church took place yesterday afternoon In the parlors of the church in Calumet avenue. It was the regular weekly meeting and the usual number of main bers were in attendance. The after noon was devoted to sewing for the benefit of the society and church. Dur Ing the social hour the members of the July committee served dainty refresh ments. The hour was spent pleasantly In social conversation and music. The members will meet again next Thurs day afterrs-on, July 13th, in the church social roooms and a large attendance is desired, Milan Stiles has gone to Watertown Wis., where he has secured a position for the summer. "Cleveland" of the Hamburg-American line, when she sails from New York Oct. 21 on the first of her two trips around the world. Already twenty have been booked from this city and state. ' The Journey, nearly thirty thousand miles In length, will cover 110 days. The party will stop at eighteen different porta In almost as many countries. It is only a few years since a Journey around the world necessitated a great deal of courage and much inconvenience, and even danger. The globe trotters will visit the principal ports of the Mediterranean and pass through the Sues canal en route to Bombay. Some seventeen days are spent in exploring India. After stops at Ceylon, Burmah, Java, Manila and Chinese ports, & stay of two weeks is allowed in Japan, with calls at the Philippine islands and Honolulu, our American possessions.
