JUDGE WILLIS GROW! SUED AT CROWN PI. Founder of Gary's Boyville Defendant in Suit to Recover $289. Ballard & Stanton of Gary yesterday filed in the circuit court at Crown Point a Suit directed against Judge W. S. Brown, assistant superintendent of the Gary schools, director of Boyville, and commissioner of the schol Juvenile court, to recover the sum of $2S9. The plaintiff is Mrs. Julia Dudley of St. Louis, proprietor of the Dudley hotel. According to the attorneys. Judge Brown gave Mrs. Dudley notes to the amount of $289 to secure a hotel bill for himself and family during 1909, and the notes being unpaid, their payment Is asked through the court. KNOTTS ELECTION CASE STILL ON TRIAL (Special t Ths Times.) Valparaiso, Ind., June 30. Frank Swada, who was on the stand when court adjourned last Thursday, was again called to the stand this morning He testified that Will Lacy and oth ers were Inside the ropes and were drunk and fighting. The same class of witnesses are being introduced by the defense. With the exception of a woman, the wife of a saloonkeeper, all of the witnesses were from the lower walks of life. READY FOR EASTERN TRIP
A week from Sunday fifty Hammond and Lake county people will leave on the Michigan Central in their special train for the shrine creemonial at Rochester. The delegation will be a notable one. and the trip will take will never be forgotten. Accompanying them will be members of Orak Bhrlne from half a dozen neighboring- cities. A house has been leased in Rochester and on the occasion of the arrival of the Hammond delegation a reception will be held for the representatives of the imperial council. The residence is located In 86 East avenue. In the city of Rochester. Following this trip a portion of the Hamond delegation will : go into a special car on a tour of the eastern states. The following will go on the trip: Patrol E. G. Schillo. O. S. Miles, ed between the boys and the girls. Work Is in progress from the sixth grade up through the high school, some of the 1911 graduates having come back with a view of doing a little postgraduate work before taking up college work next fall. Third Floor Work Begun. August Beckman, who has had considerable experience in the construction of reinforced concrete buildings, yesterday Inspected the new GromanMuenich building and declared it to be a splendid building. While the work is progressing slowly on account of the lack of experience in erecting buildings of this character it is believed that it will be completed this summer. The work of pouring the columns on the third floor has begun. Case Again Continued. The hearing on the special assessments for One Hundred and Fifty-fifth street and place. In which Miss Vir ginian Broks and other West Hammond taxpayers are Interested was again continued In the Cook County circuit court yesterday. ,.y The hearing will be resumed on July 10th, the continuance having been granted at the request of the contarctors. More Subscribers to Music. In addition to the subscribers' names who have already been mentioned as supporting the State street open air band concerts for the next ten Saturday nights, the name of the Northern Indiana Gas & Electric company was added, this company having offered to furnish band stand lights free of charge. The names of S. Levine and L. J. Hoffman, which were omitted from the original list yesterday, should also have been mentioned. ' Too Hot for Trouble. Everything is quiet in the Justice and city courts today, which is something unusual, as there has not been a case tried, filed or an arrest made. Tomorrow morning a number of dog owners will be brought up before Judge Barnett in the city court for not taking out dog licenses. Hammond Men to Build It. A firm of Hammond architects will have charge of the construction of the new Monon depot, although the plans have been drawn by Marshall & Fox of Chicago. The contract for the new depot is not yet let, but will be in a few days. t The work of preparing the old freight house for the change is going on now. It is expected that the engineers of the railroad will come to Hammond in the near future and bring with them the plans and specifications for the new depot. Carpenters Busy. Carpenters are at work remodeling the Monon freight depot with a view of providing permanent office quarters for the freight work. The building has been moved a few feet from its original site and stands close to Fayette street now. Plans for the new passenger depot are expected daily, and as soon as the construction work begins the passenger department will secure quarters In the Monon hotel. Richard Carle Coming. The Orpheum theater will open in August with Richard Carle In a splendid musical comedy, according to the present bookings of the house. The Rosary, played by the original company, will be one of the first attractions. Manager St. Clair declares that a better class of attractions than ever will be booked this year. A NEW AMUSEMENT Beginning next Sunday Hammond people, especially that portion which loves the water, will have a new form of amusement- Kasper Schillen will run his passenger boat "Anna Belle" from Schillen's dock at the foot of Sohl street and Michigan avenue to Coney Island park, near Pullman. The boat will run on a two-hour schedule and will make on evening trip on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. After noon and evening trips will be made

The! body of a new born girl baby was! found on the lake shore below the ' Danks property yesterday afternoon by I Frank Kreltzberger of 137th and Alder! streets. I The body was wrapped in a floxxr sack and appearances indicated that the child had been born about twentyfour hours before its discovery. The police have no clue to the Identity of the party who brought the child to the lake shore. The coroner will hold an inquest today.
