PA.ISTENNKS wear most charmlnjf costumes to the races, the lovely frock of lingerie material being protected on the trip out to Longchamjis or Auteuil under a motor wrap ef siik or llben. This pretty frock, suitable for :;ear

at the ri ces or fcr country club or yacht club wear. Is mrde of lavender and white checkeu voile with trimmings of lavender ribbon and tiny silver fru-tons. To- cbes o. white Quaker- lace add daintiness and the white shirred nt hat has a brim facing oi violet velvet.

FADS AND FASHIONS

New York, June 9. Fashion experts are of the opinion that separate coatj and wraps will be prominent this spring, not only for evening wear, but for street use as welL They arc seen most frequently, as are tho suits, In the Empire styles. Often this eifect is obtained by a cord or tassel, where the ralst and skirt of the coat join; or sometimes a belt i employed, visible in the back or fornt omy. Although there is a tendency, toward the raised waist line, some of the newest models show Instead the very op

posite, or the elongated waist. Nearly all the most modern spring coats are cut so as to give the fashionable narrow silhoutte, but care must be taken to avoid extremes, which are distinctly In bad taste this season. The new coats : are made In such a way as to be com-'.forta-bl in walking. For evening weajr, the draped wrap is most seen. In all sorts of soft, supple materials. The side fastening continues in vogue In these wraps, some fastening at the side Just below the waist line and others as far down as the knees. All varieties of revers are seen, the long narrow ones, the soft draped and the Incroyable. Collars Include the Jfautch shawl, sailor, Charlotte Corday or fichu, and large round or pointed effects. On storm coats military collars fastening up to the throat are much seen. There are few hoods, and falsa or simulated hoods are much In favor. In most of the tailored coats the

aleeves are like those in men's overcoats, put in without fullness at the top

cut V straight and finished off with a

small turn-back cuff or a few buttons

In the utility and auto coats both peas

ant and raglan sleeves are much in

favor. They are sometimes finished off with" deep turnback or gauntlet Cuffs,

and are cut wide, so that the wrap can

be slipped on or off without difficulty.. Full-length coats are distinctly in the

best -style. A few tailored coats are

seen coming Just below the knees, but

short coats are for the greater part conspicuous by their absence. For

tailored coats, the favorite fabrics are

Scotch tweeds and homespuns, fancy

mixtures In men's suitings, ratines and

serges. -These are seen in checks, brok

en plaids, stripes and double-faced

effects.

Black satin, especially In the wool-

back styles. Is much In favor for even

lng and even ror afternoon wear,

though It Is to be very much preferred

exclusively for the former purpose,

Taffeta has also slight popularity

Thefce are seen chiefly in black, but in

various colors to some eytent as well

light colored broadcloths, crepe meteor

chiffon and lace as- also seen for the

evening. Unlined coats are predicted

of voile, chlcon, lace and embroiderea

net, to be worn summer gowns during

the hot season.

Linens and light summerthings are still, kept in the background, but the silk coat and skirt or coat and frock

furnish a happy medium ground "twlxt

wool and linen and a costume of thi kind is a satisfactory possession throughout the summer. Black satin of various weaves and surfaces is still

favored for the so-called j tailored or semi-tailored costume, though the flood of cheap models in this material has damage its prestige, and to be truly chic nowadays a black saiin suit must be especially well made of beautiful material and must have some original note to set It aside from the. original model. These requirements naturally

are associated with high prices, and the woman who has little to spend wil be wise to have her suit In some silk other than black satin unless she is fortunate enough to know a tailor, who can copy an imported model cleverly from a sketch and charge moderately for

doing It. Very dark blue rivals black among the smart silk suits, but It must be the extremely dark one If It is to be in satin, for any save his corbeau shade has a tendency to look cheap in a satin

tailored suit, no matter how good tho material may be. With some of the other silken stuffs a brighter tone is less objectionable, although the dark

est blues are most favored for tailoring purposes by all of the authoritative designers-One may group under the satins all of the satin finish crepes and even the plain satin surface foulards. Satin delaine has lost popularity with the coming of the warm season, but there are other satins of high finish and rather more firmness than the eharmeuse and its class which are liked by some

tailors. A silk poplin, very supple and

harming of texture, yet with enough

ody to lend Itself well to tailoring. Is

beginning to make itself a place among tailor silks. Purah. or silk serge, is making a strong bid for popularity and

made up into attractive frocks and

three piece or two piece models, though

he tailors complain that it is difficult

handle. There are, of course, many forms of

the silk serge, ranging from a twill

lmost invisible to a heavy diagonal.

ut the surah weave is a medium twill

nd is extremely good looking either

n plain one-tone colorings or in black

r color with hairline stripes of white

A very light weight moire with ir

regular and only vague water design is

sed for silk coat and frock costumes,

ut not extensively, and much more

ften in combination with serge

hiffon. etamine or other materials

nan alone. Taffeta is receiving recog

nltion once mora, but is seen more of

en in changeable colorings and quaint

models reminiscent of 1K30 than in more

severe and conventional tailored cos-

umes.

Short coats are the rule among the

modish silk three piece costumes and

he word short is an elastic term, mean

ng anything from bolero or Eton or

he little coat ending in a plaiting or

rill below and Empire . waist line to he hip length coat which is the most

generally accepted version of the short coat.

Long coats en suite with one piece

frocks of silk are shown, though not

n such profusion as the short one, and

some of them are exceedingly interest-

ng and attractive, while others, par-

fcniarly "la. the taffetas, are rather too

odd and unconventional for general ac

ceptance.

Color is the prevailing note of the

latest gowns and hats. With the advent of hot weather. It Is likely that white will again assume prominence, but at present It Is quite in the background.. Adjustable collars, woven of colored beads In the form of a round yoke, with hanging bead pendants In front, are a new form of the rage for this primitive adornment FLORENCE FAIRBANKS.

Catarrh, Bronchitis, Asthma

Another Hammond Lady expresses Ap

proval alter 1 reatment.

"For years I have had an ugly case of catarrh and bronchial trouble

I had a severe cough and my chest was so sore that at times I could scarcely breathe. I had taken treatment of so many doctors without avail that I had

come to believe what I have heard so often: That catarrh cannot be cured

I now feel entirely different about it- I have taken treatment of Dr. Leedy

ror nve weeks and the change is little less than marvelous. After spraying

and cleaning out my nose, he gives me inhilation of Oxyoline (medicated

ozone) and not only is my catarrh and bronchitis better, but I am better in

every way. I am stronger and the tired indolent feeling that at times almost

Incapacitated me. Is all gone. In short, I feel myself again. Thanks to Dr,

Leedy and his Oxyoline treatment. "MRS. J. I. FRIEND, 301 Thorington Avenue, Hammond, Ind." I will give Treatment FREE

for one month to each NEW or BEGINNING patent, making no charge what

ever except for the medicine, just to prove that what I have done for Mrs,

Friend and other Hammond patients, whose testimonials- have appeared i

this paper from time to time, can be done for other patients suffering with asthma, bronchitis, cartarrh and lung and chest troubles. Many people are

not familiar with our line of sanitarium treatments and this liberal offer is made as an unanswerable argument, to convince the sick and afflicted of What we can do. Remember address, DR. LEEDY, Suites 32 and 33, Rimbach Building (Over Lion Store), Hammond, Ind N
