The early part of the evening was given to the discussion of current magazine articles after which the time was spent socially in conversation and

MRS. JACK SOX A HOSTESS. Mrs. C. E. Jarkaon was hostess and very pleasantly entertained the members of the Sunshine Club yesterday afternoon at her home In Claude street. All the members were present to enJoy the afternoon's entertainment. Several games of pedro were played at small tables in the parlors. The honors in the games wore won by Miss Anna Rohrman, first and Mrs. Charles Luthman, second. Mrs. II. L. Dorten was awarded the consolation prize. At the conclusion of the games the guests were invite dinto the dining room and served with a daintily arranged luncheon. The members planned to meet again In two weeks and Mrs. Chartes Luthman will entertain at her home, in
West Sibley street. ENTERTAINS AT CARDS.
Mrs. Chester A. Lockwood had as her guests at an afternoon party yesterday at her home in Waltham street, the members of the R A. E. Club. It was the afternoon for the bi-monthly meeting and, all the members were present. They met for several social games of cards and enjoyed music and conversation. The honors In pedro were won by Mrs. Scott. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Loew.ood. Mrs. II. G. Stevens was awarded the consolation prise. Th serving of a dainty -luncheon follow!

the games. At the meeting yesterday arrangements were made to have one more card party at which Mrs. Norman E. Strouse will entertain at her home, 198 Truman avenue after which the members will enjoy needle work at their meetings. A THIMBLE PARTY. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent by the members of the Oak Leaf Embroidery Club yesterday as the guests of Mrs. A. C. McMahon at her home in May street. Mrs. McMahon entertained at a thimble party and the guests spent the time pleasantly with the-ir needle work. At four-thirty o'clock the guests were Invited into the dining rom and served with a dainty

again in two weeks but the place of meeting has not been announced. The hostess will be named later. MRS. PRECHTEL A HOSTESS. A pleasant meeting of the members of the Eyelet Embroidery Club took place yesterday afternoon and Mrs. rechtel was hostess at her home in State Line street. The members were all present and Mrs. Prechtel had as her only Invited guest, Mrs. Overmeyer. Mrs. Trechtel received her guests In the parlors .where they spent the afternoon in conversation. Needle work was the leading feature of entertainment during the afternoon until fourthirty o'colck when the guests were invited into the dining room and served with an elaborate luncheon of five courses. The tables In the dining room were prettily trimmed with cut flowers and ferns. The hostess for the next party in two weeks was named and Mrs. II. Norrls will entertain at her home In Highland street. Mrs. Prechtel's guests were Mrs. Overmeyer and the following club members, Mrs. J. C. Lavene. Mrs. L. J. Haefer, Mrs. H. H. Cappis, Mrs. A. G. Deaver, Mrs. J. Tatterson, Mrs. Teterie, Mrs. H. Norrls and Mrs. W. Lanborn.

terday afternoon was one at which Mrs.
Frederick A. Bull entertained the members of the Fern Leaf Linen Club at
her home in state stret. Mrs. Bull entertained her guests at cards and they spont a very enjoyable time at the card tables. After seven games of whlat the honors were awarded. Mrs. Henry Borge received the first honors in the games, Mrs. Jermlah DuFrain,
the second and Mrs. M. L Murden, ths third. The consolation prize was
awarded to Mrs. Ray Fowler. During the hour following the games music and social conversation were among the features of entertainment after which
the guests were invited into the -dining room and served with a prettily appointed luncheon. Mrs. Henry Burge will entertain at the club party in two wees at her home in Carroll street. The same program of entertainment will be enjoyed.

last evening by the members of the Deborah Aid Society of the First Christian, church. The home was very prettily arranged with flowers and Jac o' lanterns were used on the porch and lawn. The guests were entertained in the parlors and on the lawn and spent a very enjoyable social time.
There was a very large attendance and
it is expected that a nice sum was
cleared which will be used for the
benefit of the society and church. After
a program of games and music. Ice cream and cake were served.

A large number- of the members of the congregation of the First M. E. church and their friends attended the supper given In the church dining room In Russell street last evening under the auspices of the Ladies' Aid Society. The hours for serving continued between flve-thlrty and eight o'clock an there was a good attendance during the entire time. The .members expect to realize a nice amount to be used for the benefit of the church. Mrs. Charles MeCullough of Mexico City who has been visiting frievds and relatives in Hammond and Chicago left today for the east where she will spend a few weeks. She will visit In Schenectady, New York City and Boston. In Schenectady she will be the guest of Miss Jean McLaughlin formerly of Hammond. HERE St'SDAT. The Rev. Adams pastor of tte First Baptist church of Lebanon, Ind. will occupy the pulpit of the Baptist church in this city next Sunday both morning and evening. Mr. Adams is one of Indiana's best speakers. The membership of the church is especially requested to be present at these services, MEETIXG "WAS POSTPONED. The members of Circle No. 1 postponed the meeting ann6uncod to take place yesterday afternoon until today when Mrs. George Eder will entertain at her home In South Hohman street. Cards will be the entertainment at the meeting and several games of pedro will be played. The meeting was pootponed for the convenience of the members. t AN EVENING PARTY. A delightful post-nuptial party was given as a surprise to- Mr. and Mrs. Joseph "Williams at their home, $03 Wilcox avenue last evening. CLUB'S OPENING ON DECORATION DAY Tennis Courts Are Ready For Use and Informal Dance Will Be Given.
Members of the Lake County club are planning a big time for Decoration day, at which time the new club will be opened informally and the families and friends of the members will be entertained for the first time. Although the golf course is not as yet completed, there are many other features that will add to the entertainment of the guests. The tennis courts are completed and will be ready for games next Tuesday. Many of the members are planning to spend the entire day with their families at the club. The afternoon will be spent In cards and music, the new piano having arrived. In the evening an informal dance will be given, and taken altogether the day will be one of general enjoyment. The club and its surroundings are looking at their best at the present time, with beautiful lawns, trees, flowers and shrubbery and should there be
no other entertainment this in itself

Cox's birthday anniversary. A prettily appointed dinner of several courses was served and covers were laid for Just

the guests returned to the parlors and enjoyed several games of bridge whist.

The members of the Martha Society of the First Christian church held their regular weekly meeting in the church parlors yesterday. The members met
for an all day session and were enter tained by the members of the May com
mittee of which Mrs. Lasch is chairman. It was the monthly social meeting and a large number of members
were present to enjoy the eptertain
ment. The time was spent socially In conversation and the members accomplished a great deal of sewing for the benefit of the church. A dinner waj served at noon and again in the after
noon dainty refreshments were served
The members also had a sale of home bakery from which they realised a nice amount. The next meeting will taka place Thursday afternoon, June 1st an-J a large attendance is desired. EXJOV THE MEETING. Miss Ferris, Miss Lowry, Miss Washington and Mr. Tilford entertained at the meeting of the Presbyterian Social Club last evening in the church parlors in South Hohman street. Plans were made during the evening for a picnic to take place next Tuesday afternoon and "evening at Douglas Park. All the members have been given a cordial invitation to attend and it Is expected that there will be a large gathering. The announcement was also made of the next meeting to take place, in two weeks. A pleasant time was spent In games last evening after which refreshments were served. Miss Grace Dahl formerly of Hammond -but now of Chicago Is the guest of her sister. Miss Hattie Dahl. Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald and children of South Hohman street left Hammond yesterday for Winnepeg, Canada where they will make their home In the future. Mr. and Mrs. MacDonald have many friends in Hammond who regret to have them leave. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil S. Reiter will entertain the members of the N. P. Whist Club at their regular meeting this evening at their home in Highland

May Sue School Board. The latest development in the school board injunction matter Is the possibility that the citizen's committee may bring an action against the school board to recover the amount of mpney that has been spent by it in the prosecution of this case. Carl Bauer, the head of the cltlten's committee, stated today that the question of bringing suit against the board to recover an amount of money sufficient to cover the expenses of the trial is under consideration.
Jewett Will Be There. Although the game scheduled for tomorrow between the city hall sluggers and the bank swatters hati been called off again, Clarence Jewett, superintendent of the water department, and John Kamradt of the gas office, expect to hold their foot race tor the fat man's championship of Hammond. Kamradt yesterday fearing that Jewett would flunk, issued a scorching statement to get Jewett's "dander up," but Judging
