that Indicated they didn't care whether school kept or not. j The owners of the candidates for the glue, factory met up at the fair grounds.1 Marovlch fancied Moller's animal and
proceeding on the theory that it could.
at least, be no worse than his own, of
fered to trade. Moller wanted $10 to boot, but gradually declined his margin until he got down to $1. Finally
Marovich said, "I'll tell you what I'll
do. I'll give you my horse and a good
big drink for yours."
"You're on," replied the older man. The twain then flrove their respect
ive animals to the nearest saloon and
went inside to join In a cup of cheer.
This taken in they started up the
road. Before they had proceeded half a block the horse Marovich was driv
ing decided, to shuffle off this mortal
coil, and dropped dead in his tracks.
Marovich wanted his horse back, but
Moller insisted that it was Marovich's !
fault that the horse had died, claiming Marovich had driven the animal too
hard. Marovich could not see it that
way, as tie naa not driven it on a walk.
Moller said he had walked it too fast.
The police were summoned and so
was Constable Miller. All confessed they were powerless. The trouble
seemed to be "an act of Providence,"
and there was no statute on which a
man could be held for trading a horse which died after the trade, to another man. So no arrests were made.
However, while the two men were
arguing Marovich gave a sign to a
friend and the latter drove off the live
horse, leaving the dead animal to the
tender mercies of Moller.
Constable Miller declares that alive, the team looked as though it was worth about $6. Certainly, no more.

South Broadway on either side of
the Little Calumet river is in an almost impossible condition and automobilists find that It is with difficulty
that they travel the famous highway at this point. Two reasons are attributed for the bad condition of the street. During the past year hundreds of wagonloads of sand have been hauled to the other side of the river, and during the passage of the vehicles down Broadway considerable sand has been dropped into the street. This has accumulated with the result that in some parts the sand Is a foot deep, making traveling very difficult. Another reason given for the bad condition is the carelessness in building the road. Although in use scarcely more than a year parts of the highway have gone to pieces. With a few more months and no care given to it the river part of Broadway will have become Impassable as far as automobiles
and heavy vehicles are concerned.
