FIRST WEEKS BUSINESS NOT DISAPPOINTING
The Gary postal savings bank closes tonight at 6 o'clock on the first week's business. According to a report from Postmaster John W. Call and Joseph Tracey in charge .of the postal bank.
today, the showing for the first week has been very gratifying. Although the number of r accounts and the amount of the deposits has not been as large as was expected, yet the number of inquiries for information leads the officials to look for a large increase In deposits next week. Another thing which will help to swell the deposits is the regular semi-monthly ray which will be paid at the steel mills and coke ovens next -week. Ever since Mr. Call has been at the head of the local office it lias come to hlM notice that the business at the postofllce during the first part of the month.
even in the money order department, !.i less than at any other time during the month. The same was true In regards to the first part of May, as the postoffice receipts will show.
Start on Final Week. Assessor John McFadden and his deputies will start next week on the final week of taking the assessment of Calumet township. It will be a week of one big rush for Assessor McFadden to clean up the work which yet remains to be done, as the labors of the assessor are unusually heavy this year. The township assessor will report at the office of the county auditor on May 13.
