Kibbon Is used with absolute extravagance on the new spring millinery. Yards and yards of It are massed into towering bows and huge cartwheel rc6ettes; for these latter the ribbon being pleated or shirred on cords. The black straw hat illustrated has a brim facing of black satin. Up from the edge of the brim rises a little "shelf" which is covered with white satin and the whits satin ribbon which forma the big bow on the left sida also passes in soft folds around the crown within this satin-covered "shelf.

The members of St. -Agnes Guild of Bt. Pauls Episopal church held their! regular bi-monthly meeting: last eveningin the guild room of the church in Rlmbach avenue. The routine business was disposed pf and plans were made for the next meeting to be held in two weeks at the home of Miss Clara Matthles in Williams street. A dancing party under the auspices of the guild will be one of the social events of the month and will come Just before the opening of the Lenten season. The party will be given in Weis Hall in State street and the members and their friends will be invited to attend. Following the business meeting; a pleasant time was spent socially. The usual number of members were in attendance. ! HOFER-YOirXG NIPTIAI.S. A very pretty wedding- was solemnized this morning at the home of Mr and Mrs. Oustav Hofer, 193 State Line Stttjt when their daughter, Miss Louise Hofer and Mr. William Young- of Valparaiso were united in marriage. The ceremony was simple In its details and only the Immediate relatives and a few friends were in attendance At eightthirty o'clock the hour chosen for the ceremony. Miss Elisabeth Mettler who presided at the piano played the "Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin for the bridal procession to enter the parlor. They were met ' by the bride's brother, the Rev. J. J. Moor of Wausau, Wis. who officiated. The nuptial ceremony of the Methodist church was chosen. Following the ceremony a young ladies quartette, compbsed by the Misses Gertrude and Marie Koehneman. Laura Beinert and Frieda Klee rendered a beautiful bridal song "The Life Road." and Theodore Moor sang very beautifully "I Love You Truly." The bride's only attendant was her sister, Miss Lydla Hofer who served her as maid of honor. Jacob Fischer was the groom's only attendant. The brldo wore a becoming costume of white crepe de chine trimmed with beautiful laces. Her long tulle veil was caught to her hair with a crown of lilies of the valley and her boquetf was of lilies of the valley and bride's roses tied with shower knot of white satin ribbon. Miss Hofer as maid of honor wore a dainty gown of pink crepe de chine and carried an arm boquet of pink roses. Following the ceremony the guests were invited into the large dining room and served with, a four course wedding breakfast. The tables were prettily trimmed with cut flowers and ferns carrying out 'the bride's colors of pink and white. Large bunches of pink roses were used to decorate the tables. The same dainty colors -were chosen for the parlors. Palms and potted plants with tall vases filled with pink roses and carnations banked ths windows and formed the altar before which the ceremony was. performed. She has always been prominent in the so clal and church circles of the city and will be greatly missed. The meeting of the members of Pro gressive Court Nq. 166 Tribe of Ben Hur which was anounced to take place this evening In the K. of P. Hall has been postponed for two weeks. The meeting was postponed on account of a pedro party and dance which will be given at the K. of P. Hall under the auspices of Opal Hive No 896 I O. T. M. M. WILL MEET SEXT MONDAY. There was no meeting of the Em broidery Club yesterday which was the regular meeting day but a party will be given next Monday afternoon. Mrs. August Schneider will be hostess at her home In MUson street. The entertainment will consist of embroidery work. , A BUSINESS MEETIXG. A meeting of the members of the Alumnia association of the Hammond high school was called for last evening to take place in the assembly room of the Central Building. The suai num ber of members attended and arranged the final details for the dancing party to be given Friday, February Xth at the Masonic Temple. It Is the second annual mid-winter dancing party at which the members will entertain and many invitations were issued Th.i members and many of their friends in Hammond, Crown Point, East Chicago, Whiting and Chicago have been Invited to attend. Informal dancing will begin at eight-thirty o'clock and the program dances will begin at nine-thirty. The program of music for dancing will be furnished by DePew of Chicago. A SOCIAL ENTERTAINMENT. A large number of, Hammond people will be in attendance at a card party and dance to be given this evening in the K. of P. Hall under the auspices of Opal Hive No. 896 L, O. T. M. M. Several games of pedro will be played during the evening and after the prizes have been awarded, informal dancing will be enjoyed. The proceeds will be used for the sick fund and also to carry on the work of the deputies here. MRS. HOHMAN ENTERTAIN S. One of the most charming social entertainments of the . season in Hammond was an afternoon party at which Mrs. Charles G. Hohman " was" hostess yesterday at her home, 35 Mason street. The party was the flrst of the series at which Mrs. Hohman will entertain the second one to take place this evening when . a large company will, meet to play cards. Mrs. Hohman received her guests in the parlors and they spent the time pleasantly in conversation until the card games were announced.. Progressive euchre was played and the guests enjoyed seven games. The guests played at twelve small tables. Mrs. John C Agnw, Mrs. A. F. Hohrtr, Mrs. G. H. Austin and Mrs. U gmlth received the honors In the games. Following the games a daintily arranged course luncheon was served. - The tables were treated to an . attractive decoration of flowers and ' ferns and southern ; smllax and pink rose buds were used In the home as the tfnly decoration. Mott of South Hohman street will leave Hammond tomorrow for Texas- to spend the remainder of the winter LINCOLN DAY TO BE OBSERVED Bring your friends, neighbors and acquaintances. More than 200 perSohs are to participate In the Lincoln memorial exercises, which will be held at the First Methodist church, Hammond, next Monday evening. . Preparations are under way for an elaborate program - by homw-talent,- It being arranged to be both impressive and interesting. Pupils from the elht city schools will appear on the program in various numbers, and the choirs from the Methodist, Episcopal, Christian, Baptist and Presbyterian churches will appear in the musical numbers. The Christian church orchestra will furnish the band music. "Attorney L. L. Bpmberger will deliver the Lincoln memorial address. The flag assembly will be a distinct and beautiful feature in connection with the exercises. Rev. George R. Streeter will be the conductor for this. The public of Hammond is to choose a Miss Columbia, who will receive the flag bearers from the various military, lodge and commercial orgainzations, who are to be represented by a flag or a banner Each state in the Union will be represented, individually, by a flag, and the whole Is to end with a military dress parade of flags. Miss Columbia is to be chosen by popular ballot, each ballot costing 5 cents. Every candidate receiving tcTt or more votes will be considered in th race. The money raised in this manner will be devoted t6ward defraying the expenses of the evening. WILL BE BURIED TOMORROW Mrs. Herman Breitzke, 500 Chicago avenue, who died last Sunday, will, be burled tomorrow morning. Services will be held at All Saints' Catholic church tomorrow morning and internment will be made at St. Joseph's cemetery. Mrs. Breitzke had been sick 'or nearly two weeks, having given birth to twins, a boy and a girl. She was taken to St. Margaret's hospital and while she received the- best of care all efforts to save hec life proved to be futile. The twins were her flrst born and she ia survived by them and her husband, who Is a member of the Hammond police force. Members of the de. partment will act as pall bearers. The following will act: Robert Law, John Kum, Fred Stelow, 8. Homrich, Joseph Wallack and Carlson. HAVE BIGGROWTH. Christian Congregations in Region Show Increase. A splendid record has been made by the Christian churches of the Calumet region since tbelr first congregation started- about seven years ago.
