, Five saloons were closed during the

past week in Gary on account of the lack of business. Business among some of the south side saloonkeepers is at a standstill and it Is said that unless business improves that more will fol

low in the wake of those of this week.

Some of the saloon men who have

prominent locations are complaining

that they are not taking in enough

money to pay their rent.

It Is said out of the ISO city liquor

licenses that have been granted for sa

loons in Gary there are now less than

100 in operation. Yet with the pres-

ot ent .conditions .prevailing it is report

ed that at least six new saloon keepers will make application for license at the meeting of the county commissioners

at their meeting next Monday.
