DEATH OF WH1TH3B HAII FOLLOWS HIJURY
Whiting. Ina:, Iec. 30 The death of ' Peter Nossent, occurred at " his 'home on Cleveland avenue, following a-.. long and serious illness, as the result of1 malignant cancer. About i a year ago j
Mr.' Nossent was Injured at the Stand-! ard Oil Co. and although it has not) been positively proven, it has been the '
opinion of many ... that these injuries , caused the cancers." For the past year j he has not been able to work and for the past several months he has been practically hovering between life and death. Mr. Nossent was known all over this region as an excellent musician, being a member of the American Federation of musicians, Chicago local No. 10, and also a member of the Hammond local Noi 203. In addition to these, lve was a member of the Whiting Masonic lodge, of the AVhlting Knights of Pythias, and also of the Odd Fellows of "Whiting. The deceased who was 4 5 years of age is survived by his widowed mother; Mrs. M. Ronveaux his sisters, Mrs. Joseph Fcx and Mrs. Liesse, and a brother Arthur Ronveaux all of Whiting. The funeral will be held from his home on Cleveland avenue on Sunday afternon, at 2 p. m. Services will be preached by Rev. M. C. Wright, of the MY' E.' church. Interment will be at Hammond, in Oakhiil cemetery.'
"While we are having a short period of depression, it will soon pass away. Soon again there will be such a demand that not all the mines nor all the railroads will be able to supply it." CHARLE SM. SCVVAB, In interview on Steel Trade.
GARY 8 SOUTHER!! CASE UP W. 16
The case of the Gary & Southern Traction company vs. the city of Gary in which the plaintiffs are asking for a restraining order will be heard before Special Judge Johnson in the Porter county circuit court at Valparaiso on Jan. 16th.
The case ' grew out of the trouble which occurred last summer' while the company, were laying their tracks on South Broadway at which there were numerous 'clashes between the police and the company's workmen. At that time the Gary & Southern Traction Co. only had three more days to complete the line. If the restraining order is granted by the court it will not be necessary for the company to ask the Gary city council for a franchise and the line will be built and operated under the terms of the franchise granted
SAYS HR. GOTTLIEB EMBRACED HER
Mrs. Henry C. Price of Gary last night emphatically denied that she spat in the face of her husband's business rival. Attorney I. Louie Gottlieb at the dance of the order of Western Star at Assembly hall on Wednesday evening. "You can say for me," said Mrs. Price in talking to a Times reporter, "that there is no truth In the story. Mr. Gottlieb insulted me by putting his arm around my waist tearing my gown, when I attempted to pass through the line of march, as I have a dozen or more witnesses to prove. "I made no attempt to lead the grand march, " continued Mrs. Price, "and even if such was the case it was none of Mr. Gottliebs business."

FREIGHT CARS ARE BURNED (Special to Thb Times.) East Chicago, Ind., Dec. 30. One box freight car on the Terminal rail
road was totally destroyed and another
badly damaged by fire, last night. The cars are the. last two out of
eight similarly consumed within the
past week hi and about East Chicago
and Indiana Harbor.
Who is responsible for the fires' is not known, but it is believed they are
of incendiary origin. . At first it was believed that the fires were accidental,
being set by tramps smoking within them or building a fire to warm themselves by." Now, however, the police believe that some crank is systematic
ally setting fire to the cars.
The cars burned last night were-both empties and were standing on the Terminal tracks at Northcote avenue when
the blaze was first discovered. An en
gine backed them down to Baring in
order that the fire department might
have a better chance to get at them
One of them was so far gone, however,
by the time the fire department could
get to the scene with their equipment
after the discovery of the blaze, thaf
it-was impossible to save it. The root
and one end of the other was burned
off.
Officer Dave Daniels had been
through the Terminal yards only
short time before the fire was firs
seen and looked into all the empty
cars, but saw no sign of any of them
being occspied.
