FORMAL SOCIAL

EVENT OF THE The principal social event of the holiday season in the University club of Hammond is the formal dance. which will be held in the ballroom of the clubrooms tonight. The affair has been arranged by the entertainnrent committee and is ex pected to be very enjoyable. A number of the non-resident members of the club will be in the city for the function, and others of the members have out of town friends whom they will introduce at the dance. Monday afternoon will be devoted to an open house. Refreshments will be served all afternoon and evening. It is expected that there will be a large attendance of the members. The open hous will be a stag affair. Tuesday I.adteV Day. Tuesday afternoon the cluboroms will be thrown open to the ladies of the club membership and such other ladies as the single members of the club care to invite. . It is expected that the work of completing the organization of a subsidiary club will be done then. Refreshments will be served to the ladies and the afternoon will be spent at cards and other forms of entertainment. The clubrooms will be open to the ladies of the membership twice monthly. MEN'S CLUB WILL HOLD MEETING The Hammond Men's club will hold a meeting next Tuesday at which the question of a sanitary commission will be taken up. The meeting will be region wide in its scope and there will be speakers from most of the adjoining cities. Beaumont Parks and Frank Gavit, senator-elect, will represent Whiting, Judge T. M. C. Ilembroff will represent Indiana Harbor, Mayor A. G. Schlieker will repersent East Chicago gnd Mayor Becker and A. M. Turner will represent Hammond. All of the phases of the proposition will be gone over. The provisions of the proposed new bill will be explained and efforts will be made to arouse interest in the measure. The meeting will be held Tuesday evening at the Masonic temple, and a large attendance from the various cities of the region is assured. A Mike Koshack, the stranded boy who came to Hammond from Pittsburg, and after losing his job at the Standard Steel Car company, was finally placed in a good home through the agency of Thb Times, called at the office of this paper this morning and slated that be had spent the happiest Christmas of his life this year. Mike was taken into the home of William Burke, 2S5 Towle street, where he has been treated like a son ever since. He has been sent to school and

Potter's great comedy, "The Girl from Rector's," will be the attraction tomorrow night. This play has atracted a great deal of attention wherever it has appeared. On Sunday "Lower Berth 13," which has made such a great hit in Chicago, will be seen at Towle's. The show is a farce with music and girls, and is said to be one of the best things that has been see in Chicago this season. Arthur Deming and Edward Huune and the original Chicago cast will be seen here. , Another of the high class productions that are scheduled to appear here is the "Squaw Man," a play in which western ranch life is vividly portrayed. This will be the atraction on Monday. On Tuesday, Jan. 3, the concert of the,RoiaL, W-ejsn . Ladies choir of Wales. This entertainment appears here under the auspices of the Welsh people of the region. Ladies to Bowl. Believing that there is a sufficient demand, Lawrence Cox has decided to set aside a ladies' afternoon on the bowling alleys next month. Added to this there will be also a tournament for the professional and busienss men who will want to use the alleys in the afternoon. The schedule can be so ar ranged as not to interfere with the la dies' program. In anticipation of the consummation of this plan the seating capacity in the' rear of the alleys have been re arranged so as to afford an amphithe ater for the spectators. New players benches have been erected and also separate seats for the spectators. v
