who will be appointed by Governor Marshall as soon as the legislature makes provision for an extra Judge here. There is a third 'courtroom, much smaller in size, which could be used for the trial of divorce oases and for probate work. The clerk is provided with adequate facilities for the first time since the superior court was established here. There are quarters for
the sheriff, there are waiting rooms for the witnesses, and cells for men, women and juveniles who are awaiting trial. One of the advantages of the new courthouse is the large law library, which is conveniently' located between the two courtrooms. There are plenty of tables and chairs in this library and it will be a great help to the members of the bar who practice here. Canopy Convenient. What Is likely to prove an historic spot in the new building is the large stone canopy over the entrance to the building. This' has a fiat roof and a small door leads from the corridor on the second floor. It is believe dthat this balcony will be used wherever the occasion arises for a speaker to talk to a large out-of-doors crowd. The large open spaces about this balcony would make it possible for thousands of people to assemble within earshot of the speaker. The members of the bar In Lake county are very much pleased with the improved facilities that are offered by the remodeled courthouse in Hammond, and if a new judge is provided this winter the bad congestion of the docket is likely to be relieved.
