Mrs. Mat Klein entertained very pleasantly at her home in West State street yesterday afternoon in honor of the members of Sewing Circle No. 1 of St. Margaret's hospital. It was the regular bi-monthly meeting and the usual large number of members were present. The afternoon was spen with card games and the guests played several games of pedro at small tables in the parlors. The honors in the games were won by Mrs. Fred Humpher and Mrs. J. Knoerzer. At the conclusion of the games an hour was spent socially in conversation and music after which a dainty luncheon was served. The next meeting will be held in two weeks on Thursday and Mrs. Jacob Weis will entertains at her home in Douglas street. AN AFTER X OO N PARTY. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the members of the Sunshine club yesterday as the guests of Mrs. A. Caird at her home in Michigan avenue. All the members were present as it was the regular bi-monthly social meeting. After the games the hostess served her guests With a daintily arranged course luncheon at 'the same small tables. Music was another feature of the afternoon's entertainment. The next party will be given in two weeks on Thursday-and Mrs. Wagner will entertain at her home in Michigan avenue. ESTERTAIXS AT CARDS. Mrs. Max Schmidt was hostess to"the members of the Fern Leaf Linen club yesterday afternoon at her home in South Hohman street It was the regular weekly club meeting and all the members were present. The ' after noon was spent in the usual way of the club with card games and the guests played several games of whist at small tables in the parlors. The honors In the games were won by Mrs. Ray Fowler, first; Mrs. Dufrain, second, and Mrs. Max Schmidt, third. Mrs. Pelxman received the consolation prize. At the conclusion of the games an enjoyable time was spent with music and con versation after which the guests were invited into the dining room and served with a four course luncheon. The table decorations were flowers and ferns. Mrs. Traverse will be the next hostess and will entertain at her home in Indiana avenue In two weeks on Thursday. A Ll'SCHEOJf. Mrs. W. H. Hayward of Crown Point has issued invitations for a one o'clock luncheon to be given, Friday, October 7th in honor of Miss Josephine Badenoeh who will become the bride of Dr Harry B. Hayward of Hammond in the near future. A number of young society people in Hammond have received invitations to attend. A THIMBLE PARTY. Mrs. Charles Wilson Is entertaining at a thimble party this afternoon at her home in Caroll street. Her guests are the members of Condit Street Thimble club. Mrs. I. B. Dickerson formerly of Hammond but now or Woodland is among the guests. The afternoon will be spent pleasantly with embroidery work and social conversation after which a dainty luncheon will be served. INITIATE CANDIDATES. One of the very interesting events in local lodge circles was a meeting of the members of Golden Rod Camp Royal Neighbors which took place last evening in the K. of P. Hall. There was an unusually large attendance of members and many visitors were present from Crystal Camp of Knglewood. A closs of thirteen candidates was initiated and the degree work was done by the team from Crystal Camp. There was an enjoyable social hour after the lodge seslon when various social diversions were enjoyed. Music was one of the features. A committee of members served refreshments at the close of the evening. It was a late hour before the members left for their homes after having spent a very enjoyable time. A DAXCIXK PARTY. One of the very delightful functions of the week was a dancing party given by a number of Hammond young people last evening in Weis Hall in State street.. There were about fifteen couples in attendance, several coming from East Chicago. The guests began to arrive at eight-thirty o'clock and they met socially in the parlors until nine o'clock when dancing was indulged in. An attractive program of music was played for the dancing which continued from nine until twelve o'clock. Frappe was served in the refreshment room during the Intermissions. It is expected that several other parties will be given this winter and very enjoyable times are anticipated. KXTERTAIXR CM'B KRIESDS. Mrs. Ralph Fierce entertained the members of the Embroidery club at the concert last evening at the First Christian church in Calumet avenue. The concert party took the place of the regulary weekly meeting at which Mrs. Pierce was announced to entertain. There were many of the members in attendance and they report the entertainment as having been very delightful. AN ALL DAY SESSION. The members of the Martha Aid So ciety of the First Christian church met for an all day session yesterday in the parlors of the church in Calumet avenue. The meeting was very well attended and amone the visitors were Mrs. Burnham and Miss Mayme Burn ham of Burnham, 111. There was bus! ness of Importance to the members transacted when plans were made for the bazaar to be held the week of Thanksgiving. The remainder of the dav was snent with sewing for the bazaar and a great deal was accom plished. An enjoyable social time was passed at noon when a committee of members served a dinner. The dinner was served in the dining room of the church. Announcement was made of the next meeting which will be held next Thursdav in the parlors of the church. The members will meet again for an all day session. ATTEND WEDDING. Among the people from out of town who came to attend the marriage of MIfs Minnie Sch wingendorf and Mr. Buehring which took place Wednesdayevening in Bt. John's Lutheran church were Mr. and Mrs. .1. A. List, Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Guifedorf and son of Chicago. Mr. A. Buehring and Mr. V. List all of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. F. Peters and family of Tolleston. A SOCIAL Fl'NCTION. A very charming social function took place yesterday afternoon when Mrs. W. E. Russell entertained the members of the Homewoo.l Magazine club and a few other guests at her home in Webb street. Mrs. Russell received her guests in the parlors of her home which had been very prettily decorated with flowers. The guests met socially for conversation and Mrs. Franklin Blackmun sang several very beautiful selection which was a pleasant feature of the afternoon's entertainment. A guessing contest had also been prepared in which Mrs. Frank C. Deming received the honors, a
daintily arranged course luncheon was served at four-thirty o'clock. The club members were all present and the Invited guests Included only Mrs. E. P. Ames arid Mrs. Franklin Blackmun. A DASCISO PARTY. The members of the Hammond Football team entertained at a dancing party last evening in Long's Hall In State street which was largely attended by the young people of Hammond and vicinity. It was the first party to .be given by them this season and it proved, very enjoyable in every detail. An attractive program of music was played
for the dancing which continued between eight-thirty and twelve o'clock. RETVRNS TO THE SOITH. Mrs. Henry Jaqua and little son will leave today for their home in New Or leans, La. after an extended visit with Mr. and Mrs. George Jaqua at their home In Mav street. They have also been the guests of relatives and friends in Crown Point and vicinity. Mrs. Jaoua will be remembered as Miss Myrtle Crowell, formerly of Hammond. ANNOUNCEMENT. Mr. and Mrs. William Humpher are moving Into their new home in Williams street today. George B. Sheerer and George Drackert are spending the day at Shelby. Mrs. Seeler of Gary was the guest of Mrs. A. Caird yesterday at her home in Michigan avenue for the meeting of the Sunshine club. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ham mond at their home in Mason street, this morning, a little daughter. Mother and child are reported to be doing nicely. II. P. Smith returned to his home In Sohl street last evening from points in Canada where he has been on a vaca tion. Mr. Smith was very ill whila away but it quite a little improved. Mrs. I. E. Dikinson, formerly of Ham mond, but now of Woodlawft, is spend ing- the day with Hammond friends and will attend the party at the home of Mrs. Charles Wilson this afternoon.
