RETIRX FROM THE EAST. Mr. and Mrs. M. Rubin have returned to their home in East Sibley street from the east' where 4hy have been on a most delightful visit for the past three weeks. They visited Mrs. Ullman, formerly Miss Anna Rubin of Hammond at her home In Washington, D. C. and from there went to Mt. Vernon, Great Falls, Va Philadelphia. Baltimore, Atlantic City and New York City.

They also spent a few Cays at a popular summer resort in the Catsklll

friends on their arrival at Rouse. Mr.

Brown only graduated from the Valparaiso University yesterday and he will go to Rouse to engage in teaching In

the public schools. Mr. Brown Is known to a number of Hammond young

people through his visits here and he

will receive the congratulations and

best wishes of many friends and ac

quaintances on the announcement of his marriage. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cole

of this city and has made her home in

Hammond for several years. She Is

graduate of the Hammond high school

MEETING WAS POSTPONED. The members of the Colonial Club de

A SOCIAL, MEETING. A very enjoyable meeting of the ladies of the Fleurdelis Club occurred last evening when Mrs. Glasgow entertained at her home in Plummer avenue. It was the regular bi-monthly club meeting and all the members were

In attendance. The evening was spent

in the usual way of the club with card

games and the guests played several

games of pedro at small tables in the

pnrlors. The honors were awarded to Mrs. John Hubefc nrst; Mrs. H. O. Young, second and Miss Anna Rohrman, third. The consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. Smith. At the conclusion of the games an hour was spent pleasantly in social conversation and music after which a daintily arranged course luncheon was served. The next party will be given Wedneday evening, August 24th and Mrs. Hill will entertain at her home in Muenich Court. It may be arranged to hold the parties regularly every Wednesday in

the future.

MRS. KENNEDY ENTERTAINS. One of the delightful affairs of the

week end was an aftornoon party at

which Mrs. Thomas Kennedy entertained vesterdav at her home in Russell

the Fern Leaf Linen Club. It was one

of the regular club meetings at which

play whist and after several games played at small tables in the parlors

The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to conversation and music and

plans were completed ' for the next

party. Mrs. Charles Miller will be the next hostess and will entertain at her home in South Hohman street in two

weeks on Thursday.

A SOCIAL, (i ATIIERING.

One of the enjoyable social affairs of the week was an Ice cream social given

last evening in the parlors of the Pine

Street Presbyterian church under the auspioes of "the Sunday School. There was a good attendance although not as large as had been expected. Ice cream and cake were served and the evening was spent socially with conversation

and music and everyone reported having had a pleasant time. A nice sum was realized which will be used for the expense of the picnic which will

be given Saturday August 27th at the

Lake Front.

Miss Elizabeth Reynolds will informally entertain the girls of the J. F. F. Club this evening at her home In

Beall avenue. It is the regular weekly

club meeting and the evening will be

devoted to names, contests and music

and refreshments will be served.

The regular meeting of the members

of Hammond Hive No. 2 L. O. T. M

will take place Friday evening in the

K. of P. Hall. A full attendance of members is desired as a social hour

Mrs. W. J. MacAleer and children, Leoda, Verna and Marion are expected

to return to their home in Webb street next Wednesday from Fond du Lac,

Wis. where they have had a cottage at the lake. They spent the entire summer there and had a most enjoyable

time.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herington of East State street have gone to Niagara

Falls and Buffalo, N. Y. to spend a two week's vacation. They expect to visit

other points of interest in the east be

fore returning home.

Mrs. John Cunningham of Chicago avenue went to Chicago yesterday to

visit Mrs. Martin Cunningham who has

been very ill at the Hahnemann Hos

pital. She is reported to be improving
