The merchants of the city made a very creditable display and were led by the, wagon Cole Drug company which

followed closely upon a number of

lice are keeping up the good work of arresting men who abuse their horses.

Sergeant Leo McCormlck was the officer who encompassed his arrest, having received a couple of telephone calls from residents of the north side, who complained that there was a man at Railroad avenue and One Hundred and Forty-third street who was ill-treating his team. Among the others who followed were the Gary Ice company, the Shoe repairers who are situated at 622 Broadway, the National Brewing company with a characteristic display, Eisler's Market, the display of Kneisley, the Gary Candy Kitchen, Soloman's Furniture store, a mounted booth of the Chicago Telephone company and the Gary Furniture company. Armour and .company were represented by a wagon drawn by some splendid looking horses and the Tittle Bros. Packing company were in line with a display, drawn by four horses. Their wagon held a live calf and a number of other things calculated to remind one forcibly of one of the best market places In the city. . Miller's Express was also represented as were the Clinton Lumber company, the Kentucky Lumber company, the South Broadway Land com

pany and Slick's laundry with five of the wagons which are devoted to the task of collecting the laundry of a large number of Gary's citizens for purification. C W. Prott had a milk wagon on hand and this was followed by a display of the R. and S. store and

Chapman's tea and coffee wagon.

anything to do with the case, and

having his fine paid by the Atlas Brewing company, he could consider himself discharged. John Cosma, . a saloonkeeper to whom Warner , was f in . the habit of delivering beer, helped him out by advancing the money for -his fine, which, with the costs, amounted to $15. The mayor and police have both received much praise from decent minded citizens, who believe that brutality 16 horses should be suppressed.

houses are not sufficiently supplied

with water by reason of the sprinkling

of lawns within said city,

Therefore, I, Lawrence Becker, mayor of the city of Hammond, Indiana, do
