SOCIAL. ACTIVITY. A very large number of people have left the city for their homes, but a large number are also coming to Gary as the guests of some of her people. This will probably more than counterbalance the absence of permanent residents. The unusual Fourth of July attractions here are attracting the attention of many outsiders and, in addition to the homes of Garyites, the hotels will be full of curious people. THE LITERARY CLUB. Owing to the enforced absence of Norrls Ewing. president of the literary society of the First Presbyterian church, the new club held only a social session last evening, and will now await the call of the president to meet again. Geisel, who is to leave Gary in the near future, has long been regarded as one of the best citizens of Gary. Both he and Mrs. Geisel will be greatly missed here. It is understood that they will make their home near Kankakee, Illv in which locality they own several hundred acres of the finest farming land in the country. A BARBECUE. There will be tremendous doings at the real old-fashtoned barfeecue, to be given at the Messiah Baptist church on the Fourth of. July in the grove on Broadway, between Thirteenth and Fourteenth streets. A large number of people are expected and there will be a fine musical program. HEARD BY RUBE Remember where ignorance is bliss it is folly to shoot off cannon crackers and explosives. What's the matter with a wheel tax ordinance in Gary. An aviator of Chicago has accepted a challenge to cross Lake Michigan. Come on, the waters fine. Caution. If you must shoot off fire crackers, engage some. expert to do it for you. Its not only saner but much safer. And just as luck would have it after purchasing our seat at the Reno ringside, we received orders to report for duty at 6 a. m. July 4th. We hope the M.
