Social News 1N H o rn rrs ond A PICAIC AT LAKE FRONT. The members of the Good Boys' Pleasure Club postponed the meeting which was announced to take place last evening and instead had a picnic at the Lake Front Park yesterday afternoon. The eleven boys of the club were in attendance and were chaperoned by several of the mothers. An enjoyable time was spent with games and various out of door amusements. Several of the boys enjoyed swimming during the afternoon. At four o'clock an elaborate picnic luncheon was served on the . Uwn after which the boys rethrned home. Arrangements were made to have the next meeting take place Friday evening July 1st and Arthur Drlescheff will be host at his home in Truman avenue. MEETING WAS POSTPONED. The meeting of the members of the Colonial Club which was announced to take place yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. J. Turner. 21 Truman avenue had to be postponed indefinitely. No arrangements have been made for the next meeting and announcement of it will be made later. DECIDE TO POSTPONE MEETING. It was decided to postpone the meeting of the Neighborhod Embroidery Club which was announced to take place yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Minnie Kline in Condit street. ,The members have not made definite arrangements for another meeting and it may be decided not to meet again during the remainder of the summer. DISCONTINUE MEETINGS. The your.g ladies of the Busy Bee Class of the First Baptist church have discontinued'' their social meetings during the remainder of the summer. The club may be re-organized in the fall but the definite plans have not been announced. EPWORTH LEAGUE MEETING. Miss Gertrude Jones and Miss Alice Bump will give a report of the Epworth League Convention of the First M. E. churches of the district held last Tuesday and Wednesday at Star City, Ind. at the regular meeting tomorrow evening and an Invitation to be present is etxended all the members of the society and congregation. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Ryan expect to leave Harrlsburg, Pa. . today for Hammond after several weeks' visit. They

CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY. Mrs. Augus Wiegand very pleasantly entertain a social company of flrends and relatives at her home in Sonth Hohman street yesterday afternoon in honor of her birthday anniversary. She received many pretty gifts In remem brance of the day from the invited guests. The entertainment for the af ternoon consisted of music and social conversation after which h elaborate luncheon was served in the dining room. Several of the guests came from out of the city and Included Mrs Pleggie and daughter, Miss Winnie Pleggie, Mrs. Frankie and daughters Clara and Agnes all of Chicago, Mrs. Wirtz of Crown Point, Mrs. George Drackert and daughter, Miss Beulah Mrs. Andree and children and Mrs William Schrum. ELECTION OF OFFICER, The members of Hammond Temple No. 73 Pythian Sisters met last e e'enin in the K. of P. Hall for an important meeting. There was a large attend ance of members present and after th routine business had been disposed o arrangements were made for the next meeting in two weeks. There will be initiation of candidates and installation of officers so that all the members are invited to atend. The annual elecio of officers was the important feature of the business hour after which short social session was enjoyed an the commitee served refreshments. M. Bradford, 24 Condit street and Mr. Clarence Milton Tuley was made today. The ceremony was performed last Thursday afternoon at four o'clock at St Paul's Episcopal rectory in St. Joseph, Mich. The Rev. James A. Baynton, pastor of the Episcopal church officiated and read the ceremony of the church in the presence of only the neessary number of witnesses. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Tuley returned to Hammond where they have their apartment all In readiness at 90 Conkey avenue. She attended the Hammond high school and is prominent in the younger society circles in Hammond and Lake County. The announcement of the marriage of the young people will come as a surprise to their many Hammond friends, from whom the news was kept secret until today. A SURPRISE PARTY. A very delightful party was given as a surprise to Mrs. H. Monberg yesterday afternoon at her home in Doty street. The party was given to celebrate her birthday anniversary and the guests presented her with a very beautiful table cloth. An enjoyable time was spent in a social way with

Miss Emma Huehn of Logan strt attended a dinner party given by Miss Clara Kriewitz at her home in South Chicago last evening in honor of Miss Georgia Siegler who is leaving for Ten nessee. Mrs. W. B. Muir will entertain at a six o'clock dinner next Monday even ing at her home in Logan stret in honor of her daughter. Miss Grace Muir. A number of members of the South pass Chicago Automobile Club will through Hammond tomorrow on their way to Cedar Lake where they win have a dinner at Binyons Hotel. London, June 23. Miss Mildred Carter, only daughter of John Ridgely Carter, American minister to Roumania. Servia and Bulgaria, and Lord Acheson, oldest son of Lord and Lady Gosford, were married at St. George's church in Hanover square Tuesday afternoon. This was one of the weddings of the season which had been anticipated with much Interest by .the late King Edward because of the close cpnnection of the parents of the bridegroom with the royal household and his majesty's personal friendship for Mr. Carter. King Edward had expressed his intention of being present at the ceremony with the queen and other members of the royal family. Mr. and Mrs. Carter gave their Lon don residence as a wedding gift. Among the gifts of the bridegroom to his bride was an automobile, in which Lord and Lady Acheson will make a honeymoon tour in France. Mr. LaSabe for a few days and will visit at other points in Ohio before returning home. Mrs. Leonard Koezer will entertain at cards next Tuesday evening at her home in Clinton street in honor of the members of the China Club. The young ladies of the N. N. Embroidery Club will be the guests of 'Miss Lillie Fedder Tuesday evening at broldery work will be a feature of the evening's entertainment. O. B. Mayor Becker and City Attorney John A. Gavit are back from Richmond, where they attended the annual meeting of the Indiana Municipal league, which adjourned last Thursday. Both took a prominent part in the deliberations of the various city officials and say that Richmond was a generous host. B. & 0. to Help Hammond. L. L Bomberger stated yesterday, after reading The Times article replanned for the Baltimore & Ohio railroad In this region, that in his opinion the B. & O. will be the greatest eastern road out of Hammond in a few years. Its new passenger terminal will make it desirable to Hammond people as a means of getting into Chicago, and It Is expected that as soon as the plans for the terminal are completed an excellent passenger service will be established on this line. Leave on Fishing Trip. Dr. Harry B. Hayward and Dr. Elmore Salisbury will leave for the Kankakee river tonight where they will make an effort to land some of the fish that are reported to be biting so well there now. While the doctors are not making any promises it is understood that a fish supper is in store for their friends. Will Hold Meeting. The directors of the Hammond Athletic association will hold another meeting in the clubrooms next Tuesday night to decide as to whether they will accept any of the many offers for the leasing of tKe grounds from the different carnival atrtactions. Coromilas. minister of Greece 1 to the United States. ' The marriage will take place on j Wednesday. July 6, at the Cockrell ' summer home at Norwich,, Conn., and on July 8 the minister with his bride will sail for a six months' leave of absence abroad, j The announcement does not come as a surprise to Washington society, as the minister has shown marked attention to Miss Cockrell for two years. Miss Cockrell Is a handsome young woman. The minister has been accredited to Washington for the last three years. Ind.. which he recently borught, was in Hammond ' yesterday for the purpose of attending the picnic of the Indiana society at Brook. Deming is very well pleased with his purchase and has ben doing a good business since he left here. He will return to Martinsville Monday. Bishop Coming Tomorrow. Big preparations are being made by All Saints' and St Casimer congrega tions to entertain the Rt. Rev. Bishop Alerding tomorrow. He is expected to arrive in Hammond this evening pre paratory to communion services to morrow forenoon and afternoon in All Saints' and St. Casimer's churches re spectively. Relief From Hot Wave. The north wind sweeping over Lake Michigan today was a welcome relief for suffering humanity in the Calumet region, but despite this there is a growing cry for rain, especiaylly In the rural districts. None of the physi cians around town had any heat pros trations to report today. Succumbed to Gasolene. City Treasurer William Wolter. who has Joined the motor enthusiasts, ex pects to receive his Bulck touring car early next week, probably next Mon day. When the motor germ first en tered his system he fought it bravely but the smell of gasolene grew on him like a narcotic and he finally sue cumbed. Play Second Game. F. S. Betz and & baseball team will play their second game of the sea son with the E. C. Minas department store team tomorrow morning at the H. A. A. park. ine iietz baseball team won their first game last Sunday by defeating the second team of the H. A. A., and an effort will be made to down the employes of E. C.
