Happenings of a Day in Lake County's Lively Capital
I I SHUCKS Prom the Diary of Si. Lenc ' Thet John Barney Peterson ought ter make a whirlwind campaign. As a lawyer, banker, landowner, farmer, horseman, sheep raiser, Je'dge, autymoblle enthusiast, teacher and nearly preacher the Crown Point . solon ; kin dish up nearly enny kind o' a campaign frappe, ; "All th world loves a lover" t' keep durned quiet erbout It. ; A grass widder generally turns out t' be a straw boss. '. .: Ne Decision 'Reached. No decilson has reached here from vthe Chicago Motorcycle club regarding the holding of motorcycle race meet at the fair grounds track on July 4, which was the object of the club run - to this place on Sunday, to consider the advisability of a race meet here on Independence day. - The track and its merits are well known to the Chicago and county motorcyclists, as the fair grounds have been the scene of some exciting contests in the past when such stars as Iluyck, Jenkins, Davis and others shot around the circuit for time honors, at a race meet two years ago. Should the club decide to hold a race here. on July 4 tt is certain to pull a large attendance of Chicago people, as the motorcycle Is steadily coming into favor as a racing prop, osition. In the event of the race meet being held here it Is certain that Crown Point people will assist in a GREAT LAND SALE! Vast Tract of Rich Laud In the II a a at Lake Country, Wisconsin, . Opened to Settlriarnt by the American ImnilcrXloB Co, of Chip. . . pewn Falls, Wis. , sale: arouses widespread int eh est. The lumbermen have at last released for settlement their vast tracts of rich Wisconsin land, a total of over 500,000 acres. The very best of this land, comprising 150,000 acres in the - famous Round Lake Country, in Sawyer County, Wis., is now being cut up into farms and sold at from $6.50 to $20 per acre en ten years' time. The low prices and easv terms on which this rich land may be secured challenges the attention of the owner of high priced land and the tenant farmer as well. Tre American Immigration company's great development plans are rapidly bearing fruit and new towns are being laid out, ne railroads are coming, and settlers are busily building homes and getting the land under cultivation. . Thes lands are in the very heart of the state's richest dairy section. Clover grows in such abundance that this region is kv.own as the great country for stock raising. The land is capable of producing big crops of grain, fruit and vugetables. On much of this land there is enough timber to pay for it and furnish all the lumber for the necessary farm buildings. It is a country . of abundant rainfall and the purest of water. Nine out of every ten who visit the American Immigration company's land become purchasers. The company relunas railroad rare to purchasers. Send for free maps, V. 1 ....J, ..111 r,oi !..,... 4 ... i i nun ii.attuii av I once to the local Vepreentatlve of the com pany and eret. Four more days to buy this stock at 50 cents per share California oil. is the supreme investment to be made in the United States to-day. It combines safety with the surest returns of any means of accumulating wealth that has ever been known in this country, and an investment means enormous returns to the investor. It requires but a glance at the amount of dividends being paid by listed and unlisted companies each month to thoroughly comprehend the value of being a shareholder in any of the producing companies of the State of California. To the man of surplus means, the question if where and how to mtke idle money industrious is always a question of import. His first consideration is where may it be invested safely? The California-National Crude Company is not a preposition drawn upon paper and mathematically cal culated profits and estimated business. It is a living, tangible, actual company now in operation. It is open as a book to the investigations of the keenest observer. In fact the company invites those interested to look into the company's affairs. The officers and directorate of the company are well known business men of Los Angeles, who have been successful in their private business enterprises. Success breeds success, who why not fill out the attached blank and mail, today.

A young eon of Mr. and Mrs. Kubal, living on West street, was quite severely injured yesterday afternoon by being hit on the head with a stone, said to have been thrown by Ray, Smith. ' The missile cut a severe gash In the lad's head, necessitating the attention of a physician who took several stitches In the wound. It is not known whether the stone was thrown at the lad intentionally or not, but as It Is Smith is lucky to come out of the deal without having to answer for his act.- Although the injury to the boy was serious It is not thought it will prove fatal, and at the present writing no serious consequences are looked for as a result of the accident. There Is a great deal of complaint heard against the practice of the children using the sidewalks, in certain sections of town .that have the least slant to them, for coasting purposes, and that fad has beteme so great that it Is a source of great annoyance to people who reside in the vicinity of the coasting places. Apart from the noise and danger to pedestrians the practice creates a great deal of havoc to the sidewalks and lawns, and steps should be taken to stop the nuisance. A bicycle, compared to the small wagon used by the coaster, is harmless, and if one is prohibited the other should be classed In the same category. Two Itinerant photographers made the rounds In Crown Point yesterday soliciting business, and if they succeeded in landing any the people of Crown Point are to blame. The two has good, photographers . of Its own, living here and helping support the town and Its institutions, and as such deserve the patronage of the citizens. Patronize home Industries more and the chances are that other towns will be trying to get street car lines into Crown .Point Instead of the shoe being on the other foot. Every dollar taken and spent out of a town Just lessens the prosperity and stability of a community Just 99 cents and 10 mills. . The Foresters will give one of their famous dances at Lassen's pavilion. Cedar Lake, tomorrow evening and all Koresters and their friends are requested to attend. The dances given by the local court are always enjoyable affairs, the best of order being maintained. The music for tomorrow evening's dance will be well worth a trip to the Lake for that alone. Building work in Crown Point is all being rushed, enough on hand at present "to keep every mechanic on the Jump. With the present lot of residences complf ted It is said there are enough under contemplation to keep things booming until snow flies. The school board held a special meeting last evening to consider the school building question, but the re sult of their deliberations has not been made public as yet. ine excitement at Cedar Lake has commenced far the 1910 season, and it will be well to keen the fisrht. brawl snooting scrape headlines set up the balance of the season, for immediate use.
