The report of the robbery was sent Into the police station from Virginia street by John J. Nyhoff of the Dalton coal company,
who was on his way to the company's
yards. Nyhoff noticed two men run
ning out of Mllllck's shack and later
saw a man who proved to be Murphy
strike down Riley and kick him when ; he fell to the ground. Nyhoff shouted to
Murphy and made his way with all possible haste to a telephone where he
notified the police.
Chief Martirf, Officer Lovejoy and Baliff Schmidt at once proceeded to
iMilllck's shack and at the appearance
of the auto patrol the men scattered In
all directions, two running down the
Lake Shore tracks. After annexing four of the men Chief Martin and his officers ran the patrol on Seventh
avenue to the Lake Shore railroad and
got there in time to see the men fast
disappearing down the track.
Luckily a hand car was near and
placing this on the rails in a short space of time they caught up with the two men who surrendered.' They were compelled to operate ; the hand car back to the natrol wagon where the
eight men were later taken to the sta
tlon and locked up.
Six of the men arrested wre each fined 15 and costs and two were re
leased.

Gary. Hammond. Crown Point and
Hobart. Naturally when two score o
athletes go Into a meet with the knowledge that there Is a fighting chance for
any one of four teams there Is sure to be a spirited contest. Time May Be Past. If the track conditions are favorable It Is possible that there will, .be some
county records broken. At any rate
the meet will be; fast and Crown Point will see a larger delegation of rooters from the various schools than it ever
saw before.
The facilities for taking the students
are bad enough but the Erie is making something of an effort to accomodate
them. There will be a special train leaving Hammond in the morning and another will leave in the afternoon.
The representatives from all the schools in the northern part of the county will have to come to Hammond and take these trains and so Ham
mond is likely to get the first view of the rooters who will be southward
bound tomorrow. ,
Probably nine-tenths of the visitors to the meet from out of town will have
to take the Krie train at Hammond.
If the day is fine It will tax the capacity of the coaches on the train to accomo
date them.

' ' (Special to The Times.) Indiana Harbor, Ind., May 27. Who
were the two men rescued by mai Sternberg, Jr., In the yacht Optimist off the Indiana Harbor lake shore last
Saturday? Their boat is still tied up In the can
al, and nobody has come near to claim
It, and the people of Indiana Harbor
are beginning to believe that the
names given by the yachtsmen were
ficticious and that possibly they had no business in the boat. The men gave helr name as Chas. Nate and George Robson, and they claimed membership in the Jackson Park Yacht club. "While thorough In
quiry has not been made to ascertain whether their claims were true, certain "members of the yacht club were asked regarding the matter and these claims not to have ever heard of Nate and Robson, and, morever, are reported to have stated that the ackson Park
Yacht club fleet contained no boat entitled the Optimist. Now the question Is, "Who are Nate and Robson, and whence does the Optimist "hail? When the men left Mat Sternberg after their rescuee, they told him they would return in a day or two, or would write to him, and as the incident in which they played so Important a part occurred last Saturday, it is natural that their absence be regarded as significent. On the other hand, the wind has been almost continuously from the north, causing the lake to be exceedingly rough, since the boat was disabled.
and it is possible' that they have sim
ply decided to awiat a more favorable
opportunity of taking their craft away.

An employe of the Lake County Democrat who was in this city yesterday promised that the paper which died as a result of its attempted expose of
the democratic party in Lake county, would probably be revived about July of this year and that sufficient capital had already been procured to make the paper a financial success. There has been talk for some weeks that the paper would again be revived but the trouble of settling up the old accounts was still hanging fire and it was not thought feasible to resurrect the paper before the remains had been properly interred. Most of the old stockholders will be placed on the retired list and new ones secured whose financial Interests will not incumber the policy of the paper. He stated that a large part of the backing would be secured from Indianapolis which fact also has considerable significance. Governor Marshall having no newspaper support in
this county might find it convenient to have such a live organ as the old Democrat whacking away at some of his political opponents in this part' of the state and incidentally boosting his own game. It is said that the first issue of the paper will contain "Expose Number Five" which means that both republicans and democrats will look forward to the first publication with some interest.

sand, they went to town and notified
the police. Sergeant Frank Barker and Meyer Rybeckl went at once to the spot, after digging the body out of the sand, rolled it in a blanket and carried it about a half a mile to the canal, where they put it into Malmberger's boat and rowed it to the Pennsylvania bridge, where " an ambulance was in waiting to convey it to Krebs & Burns' undertaking establishment. The body was that of a man apparently about 40 years of age, of medium height and weighed in the neighborhood of 160 pounds. The merest guess could be made regarding these details,
however, as the body was in an ad- I vanced state of decomposition, was 1
much bloated and In pretty bad shape generally. His pockets contained nothing that would lead to identification, having no papers of any sort outside of a receipt made out on blank sheet, and evidently the acknowledgment of some one for money paid for groceries. There was no printed heading to the receipt, and it was practically illegible, 'but that fact that it was for groceries leads the police to the belief that the man was most likely married. The other effects found in the pockets of the clothing were two pennies and a key. The body was well dressed, in cloht that indicated their owner might have been a mechanic. Coroner K. M. Shanklln is holding an inquest today.
