Got a Fine View. Crown Point people got a fine view of Hal ley's comet in the western sky last evening, the best since Its present trip across the sun. The spectacle was a brilliant one, with the tall clear and bright, and those who have been on the lookout for a good view of the sky tramp were rewarded for their long vigil last evening.
Rev. W. F. Hovis of South Bend left last evening for Chattanooga. Tenn., after visiting yesterday with Mr. and Mrs. William Parry. The Crown Point schools close today for the summer vacation after one of
Amelia Fisher and Mrs. Granger, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa, are visiting Mrs. Fisher for several days before leaving for Europe, where they will witness the Passion play at Oberammergau. Paul Raash Is building a large storehouse on his property in the rear of his feed store. The contract for the North and East street curbing will be let on Monday evening. It is said that local men will ascertain the sentiment of Crown Point people regarding the building of a public mausoleum at this place. The work can be done by home contractors Just as well as outsiders, with the advantage o keeping the money at home where it will benefit our own citizens. It Is said fishing Is excellent at Cedar Lake at night, providing one fishes with a lantern to attract the fish to the surface of the water.
The funeral of Fred Horst occurred yesterday afternoon from the Krost home on Main street, and was attended by a host of sympathetic friends of the family. The Interment was at the Catholic cemetery. Big dance will be given at Spring Hill Grove, St. John, on Decoration day, Monday evening. May 30, 1910. 26-3t
Denver, Colo., where she has taken a position as first cornetlst in a band. Miss Susie Bureck, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dureck of Center street, has-returned home from St. Margaret's hospital. The young lady was confined in the hospital for about a month and was brought home when it was learned there could be
nothing done for her incurable illness. Whiting athletes will go to Crown Pointy' tomorrow fully confident that they are coming home with at least a few victories. The Whiting team is stronger this year than -- has been for several years, they having defeated Gary and Lowell high . schools in the meets by a large .margin. Webster of the Plymouth Congregational church will preach Sunday from the theme, "Baptism" and "The Door Into the Church," and the choir will render the anthems, "God so Loved the World" and "There Were Shepherds." In the evening the service will be a memorial service for the G. A. R. and their friends. HEGEWISCH. The card party given by the Rebecca lodge at Crane's hall last Wednesday evening was well attended by the town people, also a number of outsiders were present. Small tables were arranged in the hall at which the crowd was entertained at progressive pedro. Prizes were awarded as follows: Miss McGarry of Burnham, Mrs. M. E. Bundy, and Miss Stevenson of Burnham; F. Buck-
master, I. Silverman and A. A. Kuss. After the prizes were awarded ice cream and cake was served and the remalnlning part of the evening was enjoyed socially. The Hegewisch star gazers are still looking for that comet. They are not satisfied with one good look at it.
